As
long as caffeine is used sparingly and in small doses, one will soon realize
that caffeine not only raises alertness but also serves as a tremendous fat
burner. The way caffeine works is that it increases the rate of fatty acid
metabolism and decreases the rate of carbohydrate metabolism especially during
aerobic exercise. However, if abused, several serious symptoms could arise.
Some symptoms include hypertension, slowed heart rate, gastrointestinal
distress, and dehydration since caffeine serves as a diuretic and forces one to
excrete more fluid than normal.
