Adipex can increase your heart rate and blood pressure. This can cause problems, especially if you already have high blood pressure or heart problems.

OLD REPORT FROM 1990's: A combination of Adipex and fenfluramine ("phen/fen") has been shown to cause dangerous side effects, including problems with the heart valves and a lung problem known as primary pulmonary hypertension (PPH). These were the symptoms. Fatigue or weakness, dizziness or fainting, difficulty breathing, chest pain, ankle swelling and blue lips or skin.

It's VERY important to note that Adipex(phentermine) alone did NOT cause those problems, but it still had to be closely monitored. The FDA banned the Combo drug in the late 1990's.{SP}
Adipex is chemically similar to amphetamines, which are often abused. Taking it for long lengths of time can lead to dependence, so there are special rules for prescribing and dispensing the drug.
