Armour thyroid comes from sheep, so it is a natural hormone. Synthroid is manufactured. Alot of the time generic brands of meds and name brands are no different, however, in Synthroid it has been proven that there are some undesirable side affects. Also it doesn't seem to work the same. My pharmacist gave me the info. So if you have questions, look on the internet or talk to your pharmacist, they seem to know more about drugs than docs.

I've tried Armour, didn't do a darn thing. it was as if I was taking nothing. my levels shot thru the roof. I started out on synthroid and besides an occasional break to try other medications like Armour, I've been on synthroid the whole time. I can't take generic brands, my hair falls out even more than usual. So it is only synthroid for me.

each person has to try the different types of medication to find out what works for them. this is the case with any thing you are being treated for.

For some reason, when I had my thyroid out, that's when I started gaining weight. I was hyperthyroid with a goiter. My endo doc said it's not my thyroid causing the gain. I was 122lbs when I had it out, now I'm 152. Do the math.

hypothyroidism does cause weight gain. when your thyroid quits or is removed, your metabolism changes, it slows down. Mine was non existant. That is why I've had weight isues my whole life. Thyroid also regulates several things within your body.

I was lucky enough to have a doctor who knows thyroid stuff. but I know several people who have had to go thru several doctors before finding one who is knowledgeable.

Hi, I am a newbie on this website and a bit confused. It is okay to take synthroid and phenthamine? I am on my second month of phenthamine and only lost 5 lbs. I do not think these two medications are working together. There is so many different side effects i am having, such as not sleeping and aches in my back and neck. Have you ever had a problem with gaining weight with synthroid? I read so many people gain weight with this medication. Should I stop taking both of these meds and wait until I see my md in two weeks? I am so discourage and feel like i am gaining weight instead of losing weight. I always was 130 and now 165 lbs. It all started when i quit smoking and had my gallbladder out. Quit smoking 2/2007 and gallbladder out 2/2008. Have been having so many problems with pains in my stomach and stomach being so enlarged like being 7 mths pregnant. I am 48 years old. THanks for any feedback. Erms

katiedeschenes, I also have hypothyroidism. I was born with it actually - absolutely no thyroid gland so I take a higher dose of synthroid. Last couple years with weight gain, my insulin levels have skyrocketed and Ive developed a thyroid hormone resistance. Endo put me on phentermine to try to help with weight but said that my weight loss, if any, might be a lot slower than most people because of the thyroid problems. Did you notice it took longer because of your thyroid problems or was it about the same as everyone else?
