Hi!

This forum is great. Thank you for all the support that is offered here.

I have just been given medication for hypothyriod disorder. I take a low dose of it. I wanted to know what would be better for me to try, Phentramin or Phentramin-D? A long time ago I did try Phentermine and had to split the pill because it was too strong for me. The strange thing is that I am a natrually hyper and energetic person. Taking this thyroid medication makes me more tired then I ever have been. If it is working it should give me more energy I think.

Would it be safe for me to try Phentramin or Phentramin D also? Please let me know. I just need a kick start of energy again and help hunger. I did read the difference between the two of them but I am still wanting to know more detail of the difference between Phentramin and Phentramin D. Is one stronger then the other?

Sorry for all the questions, I hope someone can help me. Thanks so much and you all have a nice day.

when taking a thyroid medication like synthroid or armour, if you just started that medication today, you wouldn't see any difference until 6 weeks from now so around middle of january. I've been on synthroid for 24 years and you do not notice a difference until weeks after you start a new dose or medication. Hypothyroidism itself causes fatigue and lethargy and it SUCKS! lol

I take phentermine and have been on it since end of March. Because of it, I have lost 66 pounds and my thyroid levels have just been perfect. Doctor said we'll check the levels again in January. I don't know anything about phentramin-D but phentermine is working great for me. Just as long as you have a doctor who checks your progress, and your blood pressure (phentermine does raise it) and will check your thyroid levels occasionally to see how you are doing. I don't think phentermine interferes with thyroid stuff at all since my doctor and I haven't noticed any thing.

Good luck to you!!

Thanks for responding. I have been taking levothyroxin for 1 month and 1/2. Even before I took it I had no problems with energy. I was not tired at all. Since I have been taking it, I have been tired. It makes no sense, I feel maybe I should get off of it so I can have my energy back. Thanks again for your thoughts. Have a good day...

Please do not stop taking the medication!! Talk to your doctor about it but don't stop the medication. I could share a horror story of what happened to me when I stopped taking the medicine but I won't. I just ask that you check with your doctor before stopping the medicine. it's very possible, you are just having a side effect from that brand of medicine. I personally cannot take generic thyroid medicine because it makes my hair fall out even more, so I take synthroid brand. My sister takes Armour which is basically synthroid with another medicine included. there are lots of options out there as long as you don't stop the meds.

That was some VERY good advice right from the horse's mouth!(Not that any of you is a horse!)
Make sure you are on a brand of thyroid supplement that your system agrees with. There are SO many!

I would think Phentramin-D might give you more energy than Phentramin. Look it up, separate the ingredients in writing, then run an interaction check with all your other medicines. Ask your pharmacist, or any pharmacist for that matter, whether there is anything you should be on the lookout for~

Yes, I promise I will not stop taking it. I will always check with my doctor so thanks again for all your support. You guys are great.

I will let you know what she says when I see her in a couple weeks ok. When I told her before how it was making me feel, she said to give it time and she thinks it is not from the medication. Im not sure what she is thinking it is from. Im not really depressed, so I hope she does not think that.

I also am taking Cimetidine 800mg. She said I might have an ulcer because of my symptoms and also this medicine would help break up the acid in my stomache. She thinks I have acid reflex and irritable bowl syndrome. I also take over the counter citricel fiber pills to regulate me. Do you all know about these medications?

Have a good day and thanks again.

Thyroid and Irritable Bowel Syndrome go together. A lot of time if you have thyroid issues, you probably have IBS too. I don't know anything about Cimetidine so can't offer anything about that. I do suggest you do some reading on the net about IBS, some people swear that taking extra magnesium everyday has improved their IBS 100%. (I take 500mg in the afternoon of magnesium everyday on top of my multivitamin)

Also, sometimes a doctor will think you are depressed because depression is a side effect of hypothyroidism. so sometimes you will get a antidepression pill but in my opinion, the thyroid levels just need to be adjusted. Since you are fairly new to thyroid stuff, I suggest this site Thyroid Disease - Hypothyroidism - Hyperthyroidism - Cancer - Autoimmune Disease the host there knows her stuff and there are tons of articles and references and just about every answer for thyroid stuff you could ever think of.
