I have been forcing myself to eat 1200 calories a day. but I feel as though I only need 800 to lose weight. I heard that the smaller you are the less calories you need. I weigh 147. So shouldn't I be eating less calories then someone who is heavier trying to lose weight. 800 to 1000 fills me up for the day.

This what I usualy eat:

cereal (wheat bran) w/milk fruit! 200
lunch-salad low fat dressing- 300
dinner-4 0z of meat and veggies between 300 to 400
2.2 Liters of water

I think you would need to get tested to know for sure what the minimum amount of calories is but I believe the general rule for everybody is 1200 is the minimum that your body needs to run. If you go less than 1200 calories, then your body could go into storage mode and start storing every calorie, fat gram, carb, etc just trying to make ends meet so to speak. That's what happened to me. I gained weight because I wasn't eating enough, I was only eating 2 meals a day and less than 1000 calories, it was probably around 700. Because of that, my body started storing everything I put into it and I didn't lose weight until I actually ate more food.

Katie is dead on! I know many people on this board think I'm nuts when I suggest they eat and eat often... but really, it's true. Here's a good site to calculate your Basal Metabolic Rate(BMR). This will tell you how many calories your body needs to just sleep for 24 hours. You'd be surprised. There are many other calculations you can do on this site as well.

I'd say you are safe eating 800-1000 calories/day. Some drs WILL tell ppl to eat less than 1200 calories/day. It just depends on your situation. I have found that ME, personally, I lose better & faster the less calories I eat. I am young & fairly active, so I think my body has no choice but to let go of the weight. If I ever go OVER 1000 calories/day, I don't lose NEAR as fast!! It's weird, but that's just the way my body operates! You may have to "play" w/ different amounts of calories to see how your body reacts.

I went 2 that website, and this is what it recommended for my weight?

extreme
fat loss
8x
Average

Sunday 1181

Monday 1329

Tuesday 1181

Wednesday 1329

Thursday 1181

Friday 1329

Saturday 1181

Which sounds resonable b/c my BMR is 1270 something according to the website!

Joy, i did lose weight pretty fast doing 800 to 1000 calories a day dieting once. But it seemed I could not get past 125. I think I lost 10 lbs in 2 weeks.

I am gonna stick to 1200 for now and see what Sunday (weigh in) brings. If I am not satisfied with the change then I am going to go 4 800 to 950 calories a day!
