Have you considered having gastro surgery? My doctor actually told me I would be a good candidate for it if I could not lose it on my own.

I have honestly thought about it. But I am too scared about the possibility of death and the problems you can have with the surgery.

I have thought about it as well, but I knew a guy who had it and gained it all back plus more--so I decided since the bottom line is you have to learn to eat healthy and exercise no matter what-why not skip the surgery and just start doing the right things. Besides I have readslot about this kind of surgery and I dont know that I could handle eating all the small meals and if you over do the "dumping" happens :( It doesnt sound too good.

I agree. Plus death? I hate being fat, but I do not know if I am ready to die for a skinny body.

Right--the thought of dying just to be skinny really sounds crazy! I have a fear of being under anestesia(sp)? scares me anyhow. All in all I will be happier with myself if I know I worked hard and did it myself.

Being that I work at the hospital I know quite a few people with that surgery. I have seen it do wonders on people!!! I have also seen it still work on people when it didn't need to work any more. I have seen people get way to thin. I mean you could see skin and bones. They also have weak bones and they and break easy.

I also had the worst happen to a very good old friend of mine. She had comps with the surgery and lost a lot of blood internally. Mind you it was a few months afterwards. But she still DIED. :smt022 [-o<

I think the only way I would consider it is if I got the kind that is reversible. There's just too many health risks just to lose all the weight I need to lose. Plus, it's So Expensive!!! Most insurances don't even cover the surgery, so the tens of thousands that it costs would all be out of pocket.

People have ruined what the surgery did just by drinking a soda. I know someone who had it and she has a herrnia in her stomach and everyone thinks she is pregnant. The surgery doesn't teach you how to eat healthier because you can't eat a balanced meal. You're stomach is too small to get all the nutrition we should be eating in a meal and they have to take supplements since their bodies aren't getting enough.

I think the surgeries have their tiime and place. I don't think people should resort to surgery just to make it easier. An example of when it makes sense is a neighbor of mine. She weighed over 600 pounds. Just walking to bathroom took all she had. She was basically in a position of "lose it now or die". She did have the surgery but that was followed by 6 months recovery in a nursing home. She was under constant care, went through lots of health and fitness training. She's been home for about a year now, so its's been about 18 months. She is now at 275 and still losing. She was lucky and got the proper training to go along with it. Without all that, I don't think she would be alive today.
