Today marks the one month count down to St. Patrick's Day. Normally this day is full of a variety of green. There are green clovers, green beer and green leprechauns. Why don't we add another green, making your friends green with envy over your weight loss!

For this challenge, if anyone is interested, I propose that we set a personal goal that we tell everyone...it can be a weight goal, a healthy eating goal, an exercise goal or anything that you'd like to work on. We'll post frequently and support and give each other the encouragement that we need to be successful in our journeys.

My goal is this: To eat at least 3 servings of fruits/veggies a day and to workout 1,000 minutes between 2/17 and 3/17

Does anyone else want to participate?

WOW! A 26K? That's awesome!!!! Do you run or walk? I do a lot of 5Ks but I walk them. I was born with a slight deformity and it stops me from being able to run. I can really tear it up on an elliptical machine though!

Have you ever done a marathon?

Yes - I have done 14 marathons to date. Full 26.2 miles. I do a lot of 1/2 marathons. I run not walk.I qualified for Boston 4 years ago before I put on the weight. It is harder to get a good time if your packing on extra weight. Slows you down.
Last year was my personal worst in the Twin Cities Marathon - It took me over 5 hours! Very painful. I had a sign across my butt saying " I'M UNDERTRAINED, OVER WORKED AND OVER WEIGHT BUT HAPPY AS HELL TO BE HERE...BUT IF I'M SO CRAZY THEN WHY ARE YOU BEHIND ME READING THIS?" I had alot of people cheering me on - It was fun and good fellowship.
I run with the arthritus foundation and raise money with them. I have had the opportunity to do marathons all over with them including Dublin Ireland. I love it. It is always about inner strength and the human spirit and fellowship instead of how you look. The first marathon I ever did was about 10 years ago and when I crossed the woman next to me was 75 years old. She's become my hero. I will never stop as long as I can move. My son is 14 and when he is 18 we will run it together. ( I have always had him cheering me on from the sidelines - he is one of my biggest supporters. He used to ride his bike next to me and say " Go Mom - If Oprah can do it so can you" How can you give up when your kids there and you need to be a good role model?
I am sorry you have a slight deformity that keeps you from running. Eliptical is good. Keep it up! I hope to do triathalons eventually but wouldn't be caught dead in a suit right now.
O.k. - I'm rambling. Thanks for the reply.
Oh - I'm staying at the Westin in Downtown San Fran in three weeks - by Union Square - do you ever go to that one?

Anime - welcome to the challenge!

Josephine - I've never been to San Francisco. I'm sure that the Westin there is nice though, aren't they all?

Fortunately my slight deformity isn't visible. Essentially my shin bones are twisted which means that my knee joints aren't in alignment so I am running out of cartilage. I also have a lot of feet problems due to that. Nothing that really holds me back, just a reason not to run. Your sign was too funny in the marathon!

You know me Jill, I'm up for just about anything

I'd like to lose 8 more pounds by March 17th..... that'd put my total at 16 pounds... so maybe it's realistic. 2 lbs per week sounds healthy
I'd also like to exercise 600 minutes by March 17th... that's gonna be 5 days a week (don't do weekends) 30 minutes each day. I think I can do it. It's more than I've been doing since I've only had my elliptical machine 1 week yesterday. lol Ok I'll update soon... you know I will teehee

:gg: K - Chic's we can do this! Kimber - I think your right at keeping it at 2lbs per week and no more. I know if your losing more it is either water weight which means your taxing you organs and slowing your metabolism or it's muscle loss which will definetly slow your metabolism. Keep in mind muscle not only weighs more than fat but burns 7x's the amount of calories!
Green Machines! We can do this! I think I figured how to upload pictures. I will put them on my diary page! Keep up the good work gals! - Jo
