Hi, Buds! I am 54 years old and quit smoking and my major drink-a-day- habits about 27 years old when I got cancer. I thought everyone did that, but later learned they did not. I can enjoy a glass of wne but haven't had any for 3 or 4 months so that gives you an idea of my consumption.
And I don't think that's a bad habit at all.
Isn't it daily red wine daily that is healthy for you? Limited amounts? Does anyone know what the limit is for optimum health benefits?
BUT SMOKING? Good at all for any reason?

I think like in Nylon's circumstance when you have quit smoking, it is so much easier to gain and harder to keep it off. Me, I have never smoked or drank, I guess that is because I married a preachers son when I was 16, and no I was not pregnant, just in love. My Mom though, has through the years drank some and always smoked. She had a heart attack about 2yrs ago and quit smoking but has gained nearly 75lbs. She can't hardly walk into Wal-Mart or anything. She weighs right now 240lbs and says she can't exercise because of her back and legs. She has rheumatoid arthritis in them. I tell her I understand that but the weight issue does affect her arthritis but she won't listen. She cares but not enough to do anything about her weight. She si 61yrs old, a widow and loves to hit the local icre cream shop. Maybe she will reach a point where she says enough is enough. I sure hope so because we use to go everywheres together but not anymore because she tries to sabbotage my diet, getting my kids started to get ice cream or going to one of those all you can eat places .

Gosh I'm soooo glad I never started smoking!! My husband does and he's down to a few when he drinks... which is every weekend or other.... so it's not as bad as it used to be... but him quitting totally would be way better!!

Once again you crack me up! I have heard you can't quit smoking and quit something else at the same time..... you'll give up on one or both.... so good to you on choosing one and doing it! Once you get all healthy and thinner you'll be ready to throw them smokes away I only drink once or twice a month.... a few times a year I like to get all jacked up but that's pretty rare... ha ha ha
