As you all know, I'm 19 years old, and just moved into
my apartment. I also just started cooking for the first
time a couple of days ago!

Friday: Lemon chicken with stir-fried broccoli and misc veggies.

Saturday: Chicken with black bean sauce and honey stir-fried napa cabbage,
mushrooms, green and red peppers, etc.

Result: I FEEL GREAT!

But...

Unfortunately, I was stressed out today because business
is becoming very difficult. So, I went to kroger and bought
some Chips A'hoy white fudge chocolate chip cookies...
I ate quite a few earlier today, but tonight I forced myself
to snack on carrots and parmesan cheese instead.

If you're like me, and you have to sit at a computer to work,
you might constantly have the urge to snack... It almost doesn't
even matter what food it is!

Just get good foods to snack on, such as ready-to-eat carrot chips,
celery, and other such things.

I hope this helps you, and I'll be back later!

It is sooooo easy to have the habit of munching on junk food! I have been trying very hard to keep fresh veggies in the fridge ready to grab and munch instead of those darn Little Debbie Cakes! I dont even buy potato chips anymore. I just figure the less temptation the better.

Cool, Cyn.

Just a note to everyone, watch out for snacking on sugary fruits
like grapes! I get thirsty and have the "munchies" at night, so
grapes seem like a great idea. After all, they must be healthy, right?

Well, since they're pretty sugary, that will upset the balance of sugar
in your body, and most likely give you a bit of energy, then a crash
where you feel terrible.

So, make sure you know the basic nutrition balance of the foods you
eat, even if they are thought of as healthy.

Yep, since my DH is diabetic, I can explain the phenomenon with the fruit.

There are two different sugar molecules, everything you eat gets turned into one or the other, after the essential nutrients are taken out and fat absorbed. There are long sugar molecules, these are the good ones you find in carbohydrates, meats, and etc. These ones are a longer molecule, so it takes your body longer to break them down and thus, they keep your blood sugar balanced for a longer period of time.

The ones you find in fruit, candy, and processed sugar, are short molecules so your body breaks those down pretty fast, this gives your blood sugar a brief spike then a crash. If you need a quick energy boost, they are great but you should always try to add in something else that will prevent that crash from happening, such as bread, or carrot sticks.

In that respect, you are better with the cookies, than with an apple. Since the cookies also contain some carbs for longer sugar molecules. Of course you are adding in more calories and fat that way, though.

I'll wreck it: My teacher in 7th grade had a big yellow lab named Fred,
if we said "hey Fred. COOKIE," he'd immediately sit up and start drooling
like mad, making a puddle on the floor. It was disgusting.

Anyone still want a cookie?
