for 5 months and lost 45 pounds.. I was sooooo happy! Well as soon as I got off of it I started gaining it all back... I didn't go crazy on carbs either.... I was very shy with the breads and pastas.... rarely eating them. Well here we are with all 45 pounds right back on...I'll NEVER do low carb again. My doc said it was NOT a good diet to follow... he suggested South Beach if I did any "diet".

I follow a general low carb way of eating. But really I just eat what I want, salads and chicken, turkey and fish and a lot of veggies. It works for me and I eat fruit when I want as well. I do not stick to Atkins per-say..it is really just the way I eat that works for me. I avoid all sugars for the most part and starch.

I am starting a lower carb diet today for a month (I have a wedding to go to in early April). I am not going to be strict...just limit the bread, carby snacks, candy, etc. I've been really bad lately about eating only carbs! I will continue to eat healthy carbs (whole grains, etc.) but will have them sparingly, so I'll actually be eating similar to South Beach.

I am going to eat very low carb (hopefully) this first week to help break my sugar addiction!

I started Atkins on Dec 8th, 2005 and have lost 82 lbs... The first week/ two weeks were REALLY tough -- mad cravings, tired, etc... then the cravings went away and my energy went through the roof. I can't imagine ever eating high carb again... Sure, I'll have the occasional high carb meal, but it's what we do 95% of the time that will make the differance.
For those of you who have lost and regained I'm sorry to hear that! I'm trying really hard to make this a lifestyle change... not just a diet. By the time you get to maitenance you can eat rice, pasta, and potatoes... in moderation!
I think Atkins is awesome and offers quick results... I've done phentermine in the past w/ only minimal results... I was surprised to find that Atkins (ketosis) was a MUCH better appetite supresant than phentermine....
Good luck to all!

There's no way you have been hungry doing Atkins. You're suppose to eat every 6 waking hours and eat something with protein or fat if you do feel hungry.

You might have lost weight but I suspect that you were not doing the plan correctly. By the 11th. day you should have been in full fledged ketosis, which is a very powerful natural appetite suppressant. A lot of people have to actually force themselves to eat at this point.

That's not exactly true and it frosts my balls when they lump it in with Atkins. Even during the first phase of South Beach you're probably consuming close to 100 or more grams of carbs. Many Atkineers never reach that number during their whole time on the plan. I know someone in Atkins maintenance and she never eats more than 60 grams of carbs!

The South Beach Diet is all about "GOOD" carbs and "GOOD" fats.

I don't think so, the first phase is actually very similar to Atkins. Have you read the South Beach book? The big differance comes in the later phases, on SB you jump to the healthy carbs much quicker than on Atkins but in a nut shell both diets start almost the same and end pretty much the same. It's the inbetween that's really different - both are good, it just depends on your preference.
BTW, I was not in any way "lumping" the two diets together... however I am pro both diets, they're both awesome!
One last thing, I know people in OWL on Atkins that eat 60 net carbs... NET. Some people are able to eat much more than that by maitenance. Sadly, I can't.... :(
