What's your take on the Alli diet pill? They make it seem so revolutionary on their website so I just assumed it was. But I just found out that it's simply a half-dose of Xenical, the fat blocker that causes the infamous workplace pants-accidents. The generic name of it is orlistat.

I have never heard of it either Ian. If it is like Xenical, no thanks! I have heard too many bathroom horror stories about that.

It's been in the news for quite awhile. There was some controversy over putting it OTC.

I took the full prescription strength for 1 mth to combat severe constipation - it did NOTHING for me
Doctors often prescribe it in conjuction with Phen to counteract the bad side effects of each.

This is going to be a good thing because it is regulated and approved by the FDA unlike the majority of OTC diet/appetite aids. It's still is scary to think most diet aids are unregulated (or they were last time I researched).

I can't imagine that this product could be worth the trouble. If anything it might let people feel they could more easily choose food that's high in fat because it would be 'blocked'. Anyone remember the famous 'carb blockers' in the 80's? It made me think the bread basket at the dinner table was no longer off limits. I was wrong. It didn't work very well and you always felt like you had a slight stomach ache.
