My doctor must be taking in too much nitrogen oxide or something..she wants me to eat 1000 calories a day. I just find that really is extreme or maybe it's me. I'm not saying it can't be done. BUT...........once you hit your goal what happens? Does that mean I have to live on 1000 calories a day for the rest of my life?? Com'on let me get real here folks. I love wine. I'm Italian. My dad makes homemade wine. I was practically raised drinking red and white wine in my bottle. I have not had ANY wine at all! Which is a complete miracle since I use to have a glass or two every night. I would rather have that than ice cream. But that's just me. But this is where I get frustrated. When I lose my weight do I have to live on 1000 calories for the rest of my life in order not to get fat again?? I mean seriously. Or can you let loose on the weekends a bit? There has to be some flexibility here. I mean, if you're good six days a week can't you let loose one night?? Or is that the kind of thinking that gets one in trouble with weight in the first place?

Breakast: 1 cup of Special K with 3 strawberries, 1/2 cup of skim milk, 1 tsp. of natural cane sugar 59 calories. Total: 233 calories.

Lunch: 3 slices chicken: 60 calories each (deli meat)180 calories, 2 slices of whole wheat bread: 45 calories each, 90 calories, 1 tsp. honey mustard 59 calories each, 1 Slice of tomato, 1 romaine lettuce leaf, 1 slice of white American cheese 60 calories. Total 389 Calories

That leaves me with 378 calories for dinner!

Hey I responded on your other post...but I think that you need to be comfortable with yourself and your calories...listen to your doc (a little) but listen to your body MORE. I eat very much in a zig zag pattern. There are days I eat well over 1500 calories, some over 2,000 and some days 500. It all depends how I feel, what I am doing or not doing, my TOM, if I went grocery shopping I like margaritas and cheescake and I am NOT willing to give those up... so I choose wisely. If I have a big lunch, I do a small dinner...for example. I enjoy food and know I can enjoy whatever... IF I think before I eat

So go get that glass of wine.... and order me a margarita while you're at the bar lime..no salt

Hmmm not a bad idea since a glass of wine is 70 calories according to calorie-count. Just think how many glasses of wine I could have..

That is my point exactly that I was trying to make with this physician (whom by the way I'm not too keen on). She's very matter-of-fact type of physcian. Anyway my point is that so what if I don't eat 1000 calories a day or I eat 1500 as long as I am cognizant of what I eat on a consistent basis, get in my exercise and the water you can't go wrong.

I mean let's be real people. We need to still live our lives? No? And that means attending weddings, parties, going out to dinner, birthday parties, etc. and with that comes temptation. BUT if you are clearly spot on perfect 6 days out of 7 can't you have a day where you have that margherita, glass of port with some cheese, or an ice cream?

My physician clearly pointed out that I had overeaten two days (1300 calories) and the other days were between 750 and 1100. The only reason why I lost the weight were because of those days I cut back my caloric intake....Exactly. I was AWARE and cut back. Isn't that what we're trying to learn on here? Portions, moderation, etc. But her point is that I would have lost more. Ok point taken but a 3.6 lb. loss is pretty good for the first week. At least I think so. I guess it was the way she commented with a negative answer instead of a positive one that really pissed me off.

(P.S. I never did get to have my glass of vino last night.. )

Nylon, your doctor sounds very 'controlled' herself. It seems much easier for folks who try to control every area of their loves to give advice like this to help control one's diet." Just eat less." Humphft.

You will not have to eat 1,000 calories a day the rest of your life! Gradually, after you have lost what you'd like to lose, you can slowly add back calories and maintain your lost weight. For example, because of my physical problems, I am sedentary but maintain on 1500 calries a day. Your maintenance might be 1800-2000 calories a day if you are moderately active.

You are trying to break old habits, right? Keep this in mind: If your 'treat' is to eat more calories and splurge then you are doing yourself a disservice by reinforcing that habit. Surely you are right that we must be able to integrate our diets with our lives, holidays, weddings, etc.

Maybe before you eat any cake at the next party, eat as many vegetables as you can from the fruit and vege tray and then afterward allow yourself a glass of wine and a piece of cake. Then eat only half of it. Would that help? That way you can still continue losing and cut out 300 calories from tomorrow's plan.

I can't imagine that 1200 calories is ever over-eating! I think with no cheating, you would lose on even 1300, especially with a little one!

i think your way is a better way to go. eating only 1000 calories a day, everyday, i would think your body would just adjust to it and your weightloss would slow down. by varying the amount of calories you consume each day, 1200, 1300, 1000 etc... your body does not get a chance to adjust and your metabolism continues allows you to continue to lose weight. my ww leader suggested it for the core plan, and it seems to have worked really welll for other ww members. i might be able to go a day or two with 1000 calories, but i could not go much further than that, and then would probably end up binging and undue whatever progress i had made that week. good luck with your journey.
