Sorry if this is a stupid question but I'm having a hard time figuring this one out. I've been researching but can't find definite information....

When a food says it has 100 calories per 4 oz, is that raw or cooked? For instance, I have chicken breasts that say just that, 4 oz = 100 calories. Well, we all know that a chicken breast (say grilled) will weigh less after it is cooked. Likewise, my Smart Taste pasta says 2 oz = 180 calories. Same deal...2 oz of raw pasta vs. 2 oz of cooked pasta will be completely different amounts. ???

Anybody have any info/guidelines for this? Any help would be appreciated.

SUPER QUESTION!
I sure don't know the answer! Any nutritionists on board here? My guess would be that the calorie measurement will always be posted in the edible form...cooked chicken, cooked pasta..

Some others, please chime on in!

And my own question: If you buy a 6" green banana and allow it to ripen for several days on the countertop, does the calorie content increase? Why does the peel get thinner?

These are the issues of our lives, huh Susan?

Looks like we are the only ones out there that have these thoughts. I'll continue to look online and see what I can find. I'll let you know if I come up with anything.

DLM; I hope I've not said something wrong; I didn't mean any offense at all.
I DO understand theweight issues and wasn't trying to cast any blame when I called weight one of our 'issues.' It was so rewarding to come into the realizaton that I did not always need to ask myself whether I looked or felt 'fat' in something!
VERY liberating to just like the way clothes look! Know what I mean?

Sorry, I haven't been around for a while...

You didn't offend me at all! I'm sorry if you read my post that way. Sometimes it is so hard to type words and have them come across how you mean them. I was just meaning that we appear to be the only ones with this issue. Everybody else must have figured out the secret to counting portion calories in cooked vs. raw foods but they just don't want to share with us.

As for liking the way clothes fit...I have a whole new "issue" going on with that right now. I don't have any that fit! It's a good thing but a bad thing at the same time! My pants are HUGE on me but the next size down is still a tad too tight. I guess I'm going to have to try different brands in hope of finding a different fit. I mean, being able to take your pants off without unbuttoning or unzipping them is a strange thing to me, and frowned upon by the boss-man.

I still haven't found any answers about portion weight/calories, etc. I'll keep looking. I'll let you know if I ever find anything!

Hope you are having a great day!

Surprisingly, this is not something I have even considered! Shocking I know as I'm one to over anyalize every aspect of this journey...

If I run across an answer for you, I'll be sure to come back here and post it.

Meanwhile, congrats on your pants being too big!!!!!

Oh, YEAH, Baby! Out of those bigger sizes and coming on down! Congratulations~
I put a tab of elastic at the back of all mine, about 2 inches unstretched: 4 inches or more stretched out. I sewed it to the back inside of the pants while it was stretched out so the pants hugged my waist when buttoned, even now.

But then again, ALL my clothes are mom-jeans. They ALL fit at the waist which might be a tad too much and foreign to you younger folks!
