Hello Everyone, I joined this site a little over a week ago the day I started taking Phentermine. I walk almost every day for at least 1 hour. So far I have lost 8 lbs. I have struggled with my weight almost all my life. I am married with a 4yr daughter and in just 13 more weeks we will have a son! I am motivated now more than ever to get this fat and excess weight off of me for good. Looking for people locally and also people all around the country on this site to help me stay motivated and accountable for reaching my goals. I wlcome the opportunity to do the same for anyone else as well.
Thanks again everyone!

Plucked ripe, off the eDiets site~

One of the most basic tenets of weight loss is to *burn more calories than you consume.* It's not terribly complicated, but it can easily lead to one of the most common weight-loss misconceptions (http://healthnews.ediets.com/diet-fitness/2008/12/healthy-diet-food-trivia-quiz.html): The less you eat, the more you lose.

This truth does apply to a certain extent -- if you eat more calories than your body needs to maintain your weight, you will gain weight. However, if you suddenly drop your caloric intake too low, your body will think you're starving and go into survival mode. If you don't eat enough, you will sabotage your weight-loss efforts.

A healthy diet generally won't drop your caloric intake below 1,200 calories, but you will need to find your "magic number" for optimum weight loss (http://healthnews.ediets.com/diet-fitness/2008/12/tweak-of-week-journal-for-weight-loss.html). Research suggests that women who consume less than the optimal amount see their resting metabolic rate plummet by as much as 45 percent.

"Don’t be surprised if you need to *adjust your calories* several times throughout your weight-loss journey, especially if you have a lot of weight to lose," says registered dietitian Nicole Bengtson, LD/N. “Your calories will need to be adjusted to account for your changing weight, activity level and metabolism.”

The best way to lose weight is to keep your metabolism firing on all cylinders by eating enough calories, which can be accomplished by following these simple steps:

*Always eat breakfast (http://blog.ediets.com/2008/07/breakfast-5-quick-healthy-ways-to-start.html).* I know, I know, there's no time for breakfast, you're not hungry and you can save some calories by skipping it, right? Wrong! While you're asleep, your metabolism slows down, and it doesn't pick back up until you eat something. Eating breakfast is crucial for boosting your metabolism first thing in the morning and burning more calories all day long. It doesn’t need to be a hot-cooked breakfast that takes long to prepare, either.

“Even if you just grab a piece of fruit and a string cheese on your way out the door, you need to at least eat something to get your system going in the morning,” Bengtson says.

*Eat more often.* That's right, eating every two to three hours will not only keep you from gorging at meals because you're starving, but it also keeps your metabolic rate higher because it takes more energy to digest food. Shoot for eating smaller meals and snacks -- yes, you can snack! Aim for 200 to 400 calorie mini-meals every few hours and keep your metabolism stoked (http://www.ediets.com/news/NewsArticle.jsp?id=32557).

*Plan your meals.* It does take a little work to learn to plan ahead, but once you get into the groove, it's a piece of cake. You'll find that by knowing what and when you’re going to eat, you have more energy throughout the day and you'll have a steadier stream of nutrients supplied to your body. The other key is to make sure you have proper snack foods (http://blog.ediets.com/2008/09/tweak-of-week-snack-yourself-skinny.html)on hand, like whole grains, fruits, vegetables and nuts -- anything that's high in fiber is helpful, too.

Once you get your body used to a regular *healthy routine*, you'll be on your way to serious weight loss without the starvation associated with it.

Finding a Diet Buddy

;)* Finding a buddy is more than having one friend. It can be anything that regularly meets to report, weigh-in, compare and be 100% open, and honest.*
*Weight Watcher's and TOPS are 2 groups that say writing down what you eat and when and monthly reporting, causes another 50% lbs lost!:eek2:*

*Use your journal or 'meet and greet thread,' or another site's tools-Sparkpeople, ediets, fitday are a few and start measuring and writing. Here's what one member used to post at the bottom of her posts:*
*1. Sleep well and wake up naturally. Set your goals and have a plan to achieve them. Sleeping helps the body repair, rebuild and recover. **2. Get prepared. Plan your foods and exercises the night before and **journal* (http://www.phenforum.com/forum/autolink.php?id=22&script=showthread&forumid=231)* them. **3. Exercise in the morning. Morning exercisers have the highest compliance rates. **4. Plan meals. People who are fit have set eating times; I eat every 2-3 hours. It takes a little work to figure out **healthy meals and snacks* (http://www.ediets.com/start.cfm?media=summer&code=28236)*, but well worth it. **5. Rebound from setbacks. Brush yourself off and GET BACK INTO THE SADDLE.**6. Make ifestyle and eating changes you can live with the rest of your life.**Adopt one new habit at a time until it's something that is part of your daily routine. **7. Do not fall prey to the magical “solutions” to health overnight. It is a lifelong process and we reap the benefits daily. **8. Lose weight and keep it off.**9. Use positive self talk. NO MORE “I am fat” or “I am lazy”. Instead, say “I am strong,” “I am powerful,” “I nourish my body” and “I am thankful to be moving my body.” **10. Set and accomplish realistic goals. Make a deliberate plan to achieve your result. **11. Eat breakfast 1 hour after your EARLY (6 am early) **phentermine* (http://www.phenforum.com/forum/autolink.php?id=2&script=showthread&forumid=231)*.**12. Eat no less than 1,000 calories a day.**13. Eat every 2-3 hours and some form of protein every single time.**14. Drink at least 100 ounces of plain **water* (http://www.phenforum.com/forum/autolink.php?id=33&script=showthread&forumid=231)* every day.**15. Write everything you eat and drink each day. And **journal* (http://www.phenforum.com/forum/autolink.php?id=22&script=showthread&forumid=231)* here or with a buddy every day. There's no other way to really be accountable. *

Hi. I would like to try and find a diet buddy in the UK. Is there anyone in this forum who is from the UK too? I received my Phentermine yesterday and will be starting to take it as of next week on Monday. I have never taken this drug before so it would be good to find someone over here that is either already on it or is going to start it too. I would welcome any diet buddy, it's not essential you have to be from the UK:lol2:

A buddy would be great to help me on what to do to eat better and healthier. Have 2 small kids, and both my husband and I need to set a good example. He is trying to get healthier too. I am Too big to keep up with them, it is time for a change. :helpsmilie:
