I must admit when I first began my weight loss journey just walking was more exercise than I cared to do. I know for many who are overweight and out of shape the idea of a workout at a gym is a scary thought. I really find the Walk Away the Pounds workouts to be a great start. I also have a beginners yoga that I enjoy. I have a beginners pilates video as well but I cant honestly say I enjoy that one yet-ouch! Of course the best thing for a beginner is just getting out and walking-even just around the block--just get started and move more. I dont think I will ever say I like to workout but I do know the good I get from it so every morning first thing I make myself do something even if it is only 15 minutes. Come on-everyone can give up that much time! You will be glad you did

Great point, Cyn!!

Although I love to work out (19, male, makes sense I guess), I can
still relate to what you are saying.

Just as you said, everyone can spare 10-15 minutes just to get out of
the chair and walk. The only reason I've acheived my fitness level is
because I decided to give it a go one day. I just spent about 8 minutes
walking. That increased my bloodflow, metabolism, and made me feel
a bit more alive. My endurance and strength just built up from there,
plus I didn't want to eat bad foods as much. Passing candy bar displays
in Kroger grocery stores made me feel like I would throw up. Great!

The Nike slogan, "Just Do It" really applies to this concept. I've never
liked it, but once I made myself get off my ass, I felt great. It's even
better knowing that I, Ian Mason, "just did it." lol

Anyway, great advice Cyn. Everyone, just get up and exercise lightly
for a few minutes, and build from there in the days to come!

NOTE: Try to do it every day. I've found that if I miss a day, I begin
to feel like I don't have time to exercise anymore; which is completely
incorrect! Just make yourself do it everyday.

I know exactly what you are saying about how you dont feel like doing anything if you skip a day. If I dont do my workout first thing in the morning I find excuses or tell myself I will do a longer workout tomorrow. That never happens!! I am just so much better when I get it done right off the bat.

This should be proof to everyone that you CAN do it.

It's just a matter of getting past that block; getting off your butt
and doing something. It seems so hard, but then when you do it,
there's that feeling of... well, I guess I can only sum it up in a
short quote:

"woah... hmm. I guess I did it. That's weird. Nice!"

My cousin may give me her electric treadmill! I am so happy! It is older but it works fine. I had a manual treadmill years ago and I hated it--I think I hated it because I was simply too fat to move it! I like the idea of a treadmill so I can walk everyday--even in cold weather when I cant get out. I can be a real klutz walking outside-especially if there is any ice! I was thinking of checking into an exercise bike but now I can save my $$!!

Hey Cyn that's great! To me it's definitely a great deal easier to do my
daily walking+running when I have a treadmill around. Before, my
schedule was affected by the weather. Anyway, congrats on getting it.

P.S. Manual treadmill? Ouch... I would probably refuse to use that.
I'd get the feeling that starting it was putting pressure on my lower
back and possibly damaging my spine.

Lol.. Sorry I have weird problems like that.

The manual was definately not fun! I am looking forward to the new one. I think it will be good for me--and like I said then I have no excuses not to walk.

I had a manual treadmill myself many years ago. I believe that it was a contributor to my lower back troubles as well.

Jorge Cruise 8 Minutes In The Morning book tauts that exercising in the AM is best for you and the most effective time to exercise.

I REALLY need to get the exercise thing in gear. I run a business from home and my two girls are home with me all day and I take care of them, take care of the house, etc. etc. so it's unbelievably difficult to get time to exercise. I just need to MAKE time. Unfortunately I'm better at making excuses. :(
