Is it heavy on your neck? I had neck surgery and whiplash are a car accident this year and I would be afraid it would put too much pressure on my neck.

I think it does put a bit of extra pressure on my neck if I don't stand up
perfectly straight.

However, I am only using this to strengthen my leg muscles so I can
get further towards my goal of easily jumping over compact cars.

Seriously. I saw a movie called Ong Bak, and it seems like a
reasonable goal with VERY fun rewards.

Anyway, if you're hoping to gain leg muscle that should help, but if
you are hoping to burn any fat there, it probably won't help much,
if at all.

Walking, jogging and running are the best for burning my fat.

Yup, even walking around with it will help to burn some extra calories because the body is having to use more energy creating more work. However, I would just wear it around all the time or when doing stuff like house cleaning, but an evening walk will be fine.

Needtolose-I would consult your doctor with any concerns you have related to injuries and exercise (or weighted vests). I do not recommend the ankle or wrist weights.

Ian-for strengthening the legs-squats, lunges, barbell step ups, leg press (with one leg at a time) and farmer walks (basically grab a pair of dumbbells and walk with them). The f walks will teach you two important things-how to walk and what good posture should feel and be like. With anything that weighted on you, it will have a compression on the spine which can be alleviated by hanging from something for a few seconds.

Hmm.. So I could just do some walking and leg strength training with
my weighted jacket, and then do some pull-ups afterward to relieve
the compression?

Yup. Although after a bit, that jackets not going to be enough for leg strength purposes because your body will adjust.

I too have a 40IBs weighted jacket I go running with, I have a large jacket the breathes really well, and I put that on over the vest. Ive had no one ask me questions since then. also I would not wear it every day all day. This would put much more wear on your body, like shin splints, spinal pains that sorta thing. I used to keep it on all day cause I was planing on joining the military, a few years from then. so in a nutshell it's great for going out on runs, swimming (in shallow water), dips, pushups, situps, crunches, etc. I did pullups too and it does help's a little.
