I was so mad when I got on the scale at Weight Watchers last week to find that I GAINED 1.2!! I had almost doubled my activity. I was sure I would have lost! The leader told me that maybe I wasnt eating enough. she told me to try eating more this week. I go to WW tomorrow so we'll see. But has anyone else dealt with this?? Seems odd.

HI there and welcome to the site! It's a great place for help and support, and trust me LOTS of motivation! LOL

I understand what the lady was telling you. But I think in a sense it's more of a eat more often type thing. You will be taking in more that way... eating more often, and of course eating the right things which you know all about doing the WW, speeds up your metabolism. It may be that you just aren't getting enough calories for your body to adjust to the added exercise. Try taking her advice and see how it works. Ya never know, that could be the key you are looking for!

YES you have to eat to lose...HAVE TO if your are exercising.....depends on your body weight and type of food...If I eat clean I can eat 1600 cals a day and lose weight...but I also have to be in the gym moving

Hey Laura,

Here's the rationale behind eating more for more weight loss. Your body's metabolism is essentially an engine. If you choose to eat fewer calories and/or fewer meals one's metabolism will slow down tremendously and cortisol levels will go up due to your body thinking it is literally starving. So when these primal reactions occur, your body reacts by slowing down your metabolism and holding on to your body fat as if you were going to be lost in the wild like an animal. Anyway, one needs to graze throughout the day or eat 5-6 small healthy meals in order to stay ahead of hunger pangs which are a sign of those primal matabolic reactions kicking in. So, if you keep fueling that engine of yours thoughout the day(every 3-4 hours), your metabolism will stay elevated as opposed to riding a rollercoaster as is the case for most people. This means you will burn more calories. Also, here's a little known piece of advice: Resistance training elevates the metabolism up to 24 hours later(if i remember correctly) while just doing cardio will only boost the metabolism for about 45 minutes afterwards until it normalizes again. In fact, a Tufts University study stated that women who lifted weights for 15 weeks ended up increasing their metabolism by 15%. So eat small healthy meals, lift weights, with a lot of reps and at a challenging speed and you will drop those pounds like nobody's business. Now go whoop some butt
