Hi,

Just wondering if anyone here has had any success losing weight by riding a stationary bike?

I bought a recumbant bike last year after I quit smoking and only used it a couple of times although it has made a great drying rack!

I started riding it again recently and I am determined to continue riding it regulary because I really do enjoy riding it and I feel good after I do.

I currently do 5 miles in a half hour 3 or 4 days a week, but plan on sticking to 4 days a week and want to increase to 45 minutes.

The bike I ise is made by New Balance and it was a bit pricey, but after I had done research this seemed to be the best one for the money.
It also has lots of programs.

I started with a half hour on level 1 for one day. Then I increased to a mixture of level 1 and 2 and had been doing that a few times and now I throw in a level 3 which is a killer, but I love the rush I feel afterwards.

At the end of my ride it says I have burned 145 - 150 calories. I feel like it should be more, but that's only the bike's estimate anyways.

I haven't seen any weight loss as of yet, but I am also extremely bloated at the moment and my period is due within the next week (going through perimenopause so it can rear it's head anytime now). I will probably get it with the next 3 days.

After my period is done I should start to drop weight pretty quickly because that is usually what happens, but my goal is to drop it and KEEP it off and that has been the problem.
I am hoping the phentramin will help with this.

well i dont see why you cant do it with the type of bike you have....and sense it has programs and isnt just a one speed deal then you should be fine.
and you seem ready to get going and not look back...great attitude, youll do fine!

Jeannie, I really like the sound of your exercise program. I have a question for the Forum Gurues.(I had an apostrophe insted of an 'e' in that word and that wasn't right, either. )

Why do some say it is better to exercise every other day rather than daily?

I read in shape magazine (Kelly Ripa on the cover) that exersize bikes or outdoor bikes are supposed to help work your stomach area also.

I'm interested to if this is true and how well it works because we have both types at our clubhouse in our subdivision so I was thinking of going there for 30 min 3 times a week on top of walking/step aerobics.

I teach spin...but that is a little different...make sure you vary your programs and intensity levels
