Hi to everyone! I have a question and hopefully someone will be able to answer it for me. I just found out that I am 3 months pregnant and I have been taking phentermine pills! I'm scared to death. I thought the missed periods i was having was early signs of menapause. Does anyone know if my baby is going to damaged because of this? I have been taking the phentermine pills off and on for probably 6 months. I would say with in the last month I have taken 10-15 pills. Does anyone know of any side affects or birth defects that can be caused from taking phentermine and can I continue to take them occasionally?

If you don't get a response from him, ask top-dawg. He's the pharmacist, he'll know. I don't think you'll have much to worry about though.

Hello sammycatd , I apologize, I just now, saw this post. I would have replied immediately, had I known it was here. I know what a terrible feeling it must be to worry about this. I'll try to set your mind at ease. Although there is very little information about phentermine exposure during early pregnancy, as in the first trimester, there has been shown to be no increase in the rate of birth defects. Furthermore, no pattern exists in any birth defects present. If the medication were thought to cause any birth defects, it would be expected to produce the same birth defects consistently. Without any type of pattern it's not likely that the medication would be responsible. You might want to ask your OB-GYN to have a MSAFP test which would detect neural tube defects. I think it's unlikely you have anything to really worry about. Having that test is just one way of relieving the anxiety and stress of any possibility of any kind of problem. You should make an appointment w/doc as soon as possible. Sammycatd, You cannot continue to take the phentermine, not even occasionally. Good Luck and God Bless, dawg

Hello sammycatd, This web-site is for women who have gotten pregnant while taking phentermine. It's not a forum and it's not a technical site. It's basically just commonly asked questions by women in the same situation as you. I think it will help with alot of your fears and concerns. Good Luck, ( http://otispregnancy.org/pdf/phentermine.pdf ) dawg
