Hi everyone! It has been awhile since I posted. I have a question for anyone that is familiar with weight loss medications. I started out on phentermine a month ago. I purchased it off the internet, but then decided I would start seeing a physician from now on to get my prescriptions. When I went for my first appointment, the doctor switched me from phentermine to Bontril? Is Bontril phentermine? Or something similar? I explained to her that I was happy with the phentermine and was slowly but surely losing weight. She said that they are similar but the Bontril is time-released. So, tomorrow I start the Bontril but don't know what to expect. If anyone has any information I would greatly appreciate it!

I could be wrong, but my doctor told me that some phentermine is time released and some is not. I always thought that capsules were time-released and tablets were not so when he gave me the phentermine 37.5 white with blue tablets I thought they would not be time realeased, but he states they are. I question that.

Jen, I think you are correct that 37.5 pills are not time released. I have heard of yellow and blue capsules that are 30 mg, which can be time released. Sometimes medical doctors just don't have time to keep up with all the medicines; I think they rely on pharmacists as much as the lay person does!:p

Ashley, Bontril is a popular and effective drug that works as an appetite suppressent for weight loss. It is a mixture of phenmytermine and another drug, perhaps phentermine :confused: and is the name brand for phendimetrazine. It is marketed under several names: Bontril, Fastin, Ionamin, Plegine, Prelu-2, Sanorex, and Tenuate are very familiar names. It and phentermine both work well and many times if a tolerance is built to
one, a doctor may switch to the other if the patient still needs help short term.

Thanks so much Susan and Jen! That information was very helpful. I took my first dose of Bontril about 30 minutes ago. We'll see if I like it better or not. I still don't understand why the doctor changed me, but if it works I won't be complaining!
