Hi,
My name is Susan and I am 46 yrs old. I am 5'3 3/4 " tall or 63". I want to lose weight for myself, not for my husband but for me. I went to see my doctor today and she said " I'm going to give you the speech." "Get used to where your at, you'll never see 120 lbs again." This made me mad!
I will lose my weight!! I am anxious to get started and refuse to believe someone who tells me to just give it up because I am 46 yrs old.
I am now 178 lbs and plan on seeing 120 lbs on my scale and lose 3 dress sizes to boot. (hopefully I lose the inches quickly)

Forget about what your doctor says. You CAN lose weight. Why is she trying to undermine you? Maybe you need a different doctor. Weight loss benefits your health on so many levels and she should support your decision to make changes for the better. On this site you'll get all the support you need. You can do it! Age is truly nothing but a number. Jeez, your doctor acts like you're 96, not 46. You're not too old to do this. If you make positive changes you can meet your goal. Go for it!!!!

I cant believe your doctor told you that, some nerve!! I have always been in my 120's until I had my second child, I am currently at 172 from 186 and hope to someday again be in the 120's. My doctor says it takes motivation, diet and excercise, but has never said that I could not do it, I'm 35. I think with support you can and will lose weight at ANY age.

What a terrible thing to say! 120# is a perfectly reasonable goal for your height. I am 5'3" and my long term goal is 120. I'm am currently fluctuating between 127 and 130 and I feel great! Just don't give up!!! We're here to help...

Hi, Susan, and welcome! I am a Susan, too. You are going to have to trust your doctor, yes, but that doesn't mean everything she says is correct. You are ultimately responsible to make decisions for yourself and weigh all your options. Remember your doctor has normal human quirks, too, like we all do.
I must tell you. I am 54 years old, and lost 1/2 pound a week on my venture. I have once weighed 180 pounds, but when this venture began in May, 2006, about 170 lbs.
Today I am 134 pounds but need to gain one pound so my doctor will be happy. (This is going to be the fun part!)I have been a bit sick for a few weeks and just coming out of it. I feel in total control over many things and feel great about myself again.
I encourage you, Baby, GO FOR IT!!!
