WOW! Thumbs up to all the new guys and for all the absolutely wonderful answers from our members! You guys are the best; you are always giving time, patience and information out to others. You are the ones that make this forum--we need each and every one of you. Excellent advice given, too!
A few words: Tamika, drinking Lake Michigan daily is ideal! At least 100 ounces and 1,000 calories a day and always eat breakfast.
Louise: I feel it with ya, Girl. I am 54 and our age pulls some bad tricks on our bodies...BUT we can fight back!
2Big: Started today? GIRL! You come back and give us the scoop tonight about how your day went. Dry mouth and sleeplessness are 2 reminders to take your medicine an hour before breakfast and to drink water all day long. If you are a working gal, 5 am is ideal because you will fall asleep anytime after 9 pm or so after the first 7-10 days. The side effects die down some by then.
Ladyk and Georgia: We can't order online anymore. Even the old 'trust-worthy' sites have been shut down. Don't believe the hype...they cannot sell to you without breaking the law! But there ARE other ways!
PoohBear: We are super glad to have you back, Hon!
Ny:You must take care of yourself in order to be the best you can be for those you love, too! Forgetting a pill or 10 pills will not make you gain. The pill is only a boost for your will power. You are still resonsible to do the work. The good thing is IT IS POSSIBLE and we will all help you achieve your goals! Dag is a great source of wisdom and motivation for you!
Littlelaura: Girl! You MUST eat at least 1000calkories and probably more just to lose weight! Eat often and eat more! Diet info to follow...
hCPayne: welcome and know you have come to tge right place. We are all glad to have each one of you guys here and know it just didn't happen by chance.
flipper: Welcome, Hon. Nobody should take those together but several of us have tried both. I have bought Phentramin and will try it and report within the next 2 weeks about it. Stay here and read and learn!
Some Basics:
1. Make your plan on paper of ‘before and after’.Start this minute. The diet pills can help you control of your appetite, but you must do it.Write down everything you eat or drink, every day.
A. Don’t get impatient about losing weight; it is one of the key reasons diets fail.
B. A short-term solution doesn’t last and if you try one, you're almost guaranteed to fail. It’s not easy work and it requires some sacrifices. This journey will be slow and steady but can last a lifetime.
C. Find a plan you can live with long-term. Fad diets can’t sustain you daily. Your plan must make room for some of the foods you like in lesser quantities than before. After all, you can live with that for the long haul.
2. Count your calories. They matter. If you feel empowered at all by apptite reducers, use this time to teach yourself new habits.
A. Write everything that you consume. Consciencious eating always produces a real decrease in food consumption.
B. Eat enough! At least 1,000 calories a day and more if you’re active. Don't reduce below that or your body will respond by lowering your metabolism and slowing your weight loss.
3. Eat breakfast; eat smaller portions 5-6 times a day and always eat a protein source.
A. Carbohydrates should be complex. Whole oats, whole grain breads, beans, peas, sweet potatoes, green veges~ Eat only whole grains. Kashi Go Lean Crunch is my favorite for breakfast-7 whole grain and yummy. Remember that breakfast jump-starts your engine to burn calories.
Proteins- When you are losing, if you always eat a protein you're more likely to lose fat, not muscle.Eat some form of protein each time you eat. There are so many sources: chicken, turkey, fish, lean beef and pork, eggs, protein bars and shakes, yogurt, skim milk, fat free cottage cheese, nuts, beans, tuna, fat-free franks.
4. Plan your foods and snacks for the day to avoid spontaneous eating.Eat proteins with vegetables and fruit for volume. Eat big salads made with Romaine lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, mushrooms, chopped up ¼ c apple, sweet bell peppers, broccoli slaw and anything else you like and keep it ready at all times.
5. Exercise for some period of time, every day.
6. Drink at least 100 ounces of water a day.
7. Journal your feelings and emotions here and have a great network of support and encouragement.
8. Eat a properly nutritious blend of food groups, mostly vegetables and fruits, whole and multi-grains, proteins and lastly, fats.
9. Managing emotional eating. Work to develop healthy habits. Make eating a separate activity and you’ll eat less.
10.Indulge in the healthiest foods: every sort of vegetable and fruit. I do not even count these calories on my maintenance diet and it works!

Ok, what are the "other ways." I was one of the old sisterspharmacy people so I'm looking diligently before what I have left runs out. I plan to meet my goal this time. I do exercise 5 days a week, I eat complex carbs, watch what I eat all those things you are supposed to. Which is how I have been able to lose the weight. So, any help on the "other ways?"

Hi, GeorgiaGurl! We are next door to each other if you are from Georgia! We live in Alabama, just 50 miles south of B'ham!
One thing we all know from experience is that the desire to lose can't and doesn't come from somewhere outside us. No kind of cajoling, badgering, whining, complaining, belittling or challenging talk can take the place of a new healthy desire that comes from inside -from within.
From SOMEWHERE, who knows where, I remember thinking that THIS time, I KNEW it would work! I started May 22, 2006, and these are some of the things that I feel helped me out. Each of you guys has a list..please tell us what helped you the most and let's add to this list.
1. I planned my 6 times to eat the night before. I bagged or separated my breakfasts, snacks, meals, separately and had them in the frig. the night before. I wrote on them 6 am, 9 am, 12, 3 pm, 6 pm, 9 pm.It was easy for me because of my hubby's support..I had no young ones to tend to or feed. Eating so often boosted my metabolism all day long.
2. I always ate a protein each time I ate because I knew that nutritionally, this would help regulate my blood sugars, which are the things that cause hunger pangs.
3. I drank water, about 100-120 ounces, all day and a full 8 ounces before each pre-planned meal. I also waited 5 minutes after I drank it all to eat. It was amazing to me how water can sometimes quench an oral need we might think is hunger. Ice water uses more calories to turn it warm, so that helped, too.
4. I exercised in the morning for 15 min, before I even got out of bed, which may have boosted my metabolism. It may have been best to wait until right after breakfast; I can't remember!!
4. I added a tsp of lemon juice to my water (every pint or so of water) at the urge of Ian Mason, our site administrator. He has that listed in his Phentermine Tolerance Report but I can tell you it also works even if you aren't taking any diet pills.
5. I wrote down everything so I'd stay aware of what I consumed.
6. I was already taking Vitamin B-12 shots, but was also advised to take B-12. It can't be used by the body in pill form but must be either a shot or sublingually dissolved.
7. A supplement called 5-HTP is a group of amino acids and somehow boosts the seratonin levels which are affected in the body's appetite response. Some folks are adding about 1/10 the normal dose of an SRRI anti-depressant because of that same response. That must ONLY be done under a doctor's care.
8. Get a buddy, a friend, a penpal, someone here--anyone you will be accountable to(lots of us choose journalling here as our place of accountability). It REALLY helps. Don't weigh too often. Once a week is enough, same time, same place...
What kinds of tricks have you found that help you the most?

I definitely understand that question! I guess it should have been addressed somewhere. Maybe I can talk Ian into a short answer to have posted where everyone could see it. Maybe after he reads and edits this post he will make a sticky thread that will stay put.
This used to be a site that recommended phentermine and offered many options to buy.(NOT the Fen-phen that was dangerous and taken off the market several years ago.) Up until January 7, 2007, it was legal to buy and sell this diet product online, even without a doctor's prescription. So-called online doctors supposedly approved you or not. I don't think there were any doctors who had any dealings at all with these online sites.
Sites popped up world-wide and most outside of the U.S. were doing any type thing to get $ from people from lying to using folks' credit card numbers to buy airline tickets! If you order came from outside the U.S., there were no resrictions on pill packaging or any assurances people were actually receiving what they ordered.
This same type thing was happening to all the controlled drugs folks would order. There are legitimate sites but they do not sell phentermine because the neighborhood pharmacist could provide them for only a few greenbacks rather than hundreds of dollars. And there must be a paper prescription. No faxing accepted anymore.
The FDA and DEA demands for quality and pill ingredients were almost impossible to police so they made that sort of trafficking a felony, not only for the seller online but also for the purchaser. There were people dying from allergic reactions to some counterfeit drug they had received instead of what they had ordered, heart attacks, etc. And the very worst offenders were our teenagers.
The lure was to set up an online site, sell whatever you could get your hands on or to order anything that would cause weight loss or a high. People were desperate to get generic drugs and to stock up when news leaked out through the doctor's and pharmacist's practices and there was a huge rush to get as much phentermine as possible as soon as possible.
Most of us know the drug in its U.S. standardized form is safe with precautions taken and felt as if we were being looted when it became illegal. But we understood. Even now, doctors or pharmacists are unable to take or receive phone requests. It is a requirement that you have a written script from your own doctor and even then it is verified.
Ian decided to leave most of the original threads here so we could go back and read up in the archives. Our "Weight Loss Support" thread used to be called "Phentermine Support"!He has changed so many links but it is a gigantic effort to change all and even then, Google will sponsor sites that say they will sell it.
Hoodia has been suggested here as has Phentramin, a legal substitute that does not require a prescription. The Hoodia I tried didn't help me, but I have bought some Phentramin and will try a week's worth within the next 2 weeks and report on it ASAP.
I wish I had more answers for you, Hon. It does seem so unfair.

Dear Susan, Thanks for the explanation. Please let me know how the phentramin works for you. I had no reactions or any bad effects from the phentermine except I wasn't hungy, I felt like taking up running again and I lost weight. With all the concern about people being overweight, it helped me tremendously. My doctor would not prescribe it because my BMI index is 28% fat and she said I needed to be 30% or more fat.
I will be watching the board to see how you are doing on the other stuff. Thanks for explainging.
