Hi, Michelle. They are NOT illegal from your doctor; as a matter of fact, they are safe and legal when prescribed by him/her and taken as directed for a short period of time(3 mths) while learning new eating and exercise habits.

THEY ARE NOT LEGALLY SOLD OFF THE WEB. NO CONTROLLED DRUGS CAN BE PURCHASED ONLINE- NONE.

Some doctors remember them from the 1990's, when a combination pill which included phentermine was banned. That's unfortunate because phentermine by itself is safe for most and if they would research it, they would see how safe it is.

Also, you might ask for alternative, helpful medicines along those same lines: Meridia, Tenuate, Bontril...GOOD LUCK and come back and tell us what happens!

Susan- I take it@ 6am ,11 and 2pm yes sometimes at first tilli read in the forum tylenol pm or tea , now not so much at all. I have a question...My dr. wants a thyroid test stool test and saliva. I told him i had a thyroid 1 yr or 2 ago he said that does'nt matter not to mention insurance does'nt pay for all of this and Ii told him Bill was out of work for 2 mos .he wrote another script 10/13 and said he only prescribes 8-12 wks.he is new to the clinic he's actually a Neuro.I don't think he'll write another script for me if I don't get this done I may have to come to Mobile,Al. EVER HEAR OF ALL THIS?Maureen

My two cents I've read some ppl having to do bloodwork,EKG done and labs done before, they issue this kinda medication. Maybe to rule out any other reason why you could not lose weight before they prescribe you this drug and that your heart is in good condition, just to cover their butt .

Then again, I've heard ppl just filling out forms of the medical history and that's it, viola you get a prescription. So I think it depends in the Dr.'s belief and how easy they make it or hard they make it for you to get it and if $$$$$$$$$$ plays a big issue or not,some are money hungry and will just hand out the medication like candy.

What I don't get is why wait until after you started the medication to do all these labs now. That's seems like a mute point to me. I do remember seeing 6 weeks to 12 weeks is what most Dr.'s will only prescribe these kind of medication for.

However I've read other's who have these Dr's with very liberal views and keep them prescriptions comming to you for alot longer then the 6 to 12 weeks recommended. Those are the one's that are making the big bucks But, may also be putting some patients health at risk. No one really knows the long term affects from using these kinda drugs long term and damage it could do to one's body.jmo

Hi sunnkiss, Your Welcome and maybe that is the route, you need to take. I wish you much luck in finding, a better Dr. What a pain, I hear especially, if you do not have much weight to lose. I know there are some out there because, other ladies who have twenty or less lbs to lose have been members on here and received a prescription. Usually only for only one or two months though,because they did not have alot of weight to get off.

Oh well, (I read someone else doing this) I'd even get the yellow pages out and start calling places and ask if they offer a weightloss program or not. How much ? How many visits a month ? Monthly cost ? You don't want to waste your money and their time if you don't call and find out things first before you go see another Dr.kwim?

Thanks again. I did look some are $270 includ. EKG,bloodwoork1st visit then $70. Man... I remember when I was on phen-phen in Nashville in'94 I really never took the pandomin-fen, but it was $80. This Dr. in Milton,fl wants all the tests I mention but I may just get the bloodwork done(thyroid test)I'm even willing to go to Mobile area of AL.I tried the link from Susan but none in P'cola,but I still don't like him(Dr.) he is way too pushy for the other tests especially the stool thats 3 days worth NO WAY JOSE ! LOL...
