I gave birth to my lil girl on 8-28-08 and I am BFing her. i really wanted to make it as long as I could.. 6 months would be great. I only did it for about 6 weeks with my son and I wanted to do it longer this time. I am going on 12 weeks and I am so proud of my self, but I am getting more and more depressed about my weight. I stay home all day with my 2 yr old and baby and my 4 yr old brother. i can't go out and do stuff, so I stay pretty bored all day and end up snacking for most of the day! Today I am going to the local community center to get a membership to their gym, but the child care they offer only takes babies 6 months and up.. so my lil girl is too young to go. Therefore, I have to wait til my hubby gets off work b4 I can go. I know this will help, but I so badly want to start taking phen again. I took it after I had my son and lost about 35lbs in 3 months or so. So, my biggest delima is should i stop BFing now so I can start taking phen or just wait til she's 6 months old and then stop and take them? I want to give my lil girl the best nutrition i can, but I'm afraid I'm going to become more and more depressed if I don't lose weight soon. I only have one pair of jeans that fit me right now and I'm 6'2 so I have to order my jeans online. I ordered 3 new pairs and I guess I gained a lil more weight and they didn't fit! I feel selfish for wanting to stop BFing just to take diet pills. I just need something to help me control my eating and give me more energy. Has anyone been faced with this situation and if so what did you decide?? sorry this is so long, but I really need a lil advice. Thanks.

I really, really, want to add my two cents but, I need to go, to sleep. Sounds like your starting to get the itch pretty bad to lose your weight. Well you know, I heard the second go around is very hard on phentermine and it may not even work as good the second time but, then again, if you took a long enough break from it it may. I say Hang in there girly for as long as you can, your baby is more important right now. Although, I also say any length of bf is better then none and you've topped me, I only made it 3 months with my last. It was to hard with 3 other children around. To bad the pumping and saving another three months in the freezer would not work for you, like I suggested before. I say stick it out but, if push comes to shove, Don't feel guilty, I think you've done awesome for as long as you have done it for. Plenty of babies were never bf but formula feed and turned out just fine. Ultimately it will be your Decision. Hopefully more ppl chime in.

Just wanted to share with you my experience. I just had twin girls 8-29-08, I breastfed them for the first 2 weeks.. I also have a 3yr old little girl. My 3 yr old wasnt able to breastfeed well and only went for a few days or so out of the hospital. I wanted so badly to breastfeed as long as possible this time around (because they are our last) BUT, with twins and a 3yr old breastfeeding takes up to an hour and a half each feeding and by the time your done its almost time to start over again so I quit after about 2 weeks. I started Phen to lose the weight, and now I regret it. Even tho the weight is coming off, Knowing that I will never be able to breastfeed again hurts.. I felt so selfish for doing so. But its just something im going to have to live with. Just ask yourself if its something you really want to do right now. The pills can wait on you to lose the weight, but once your done BF'ing your milk is gone! Whatever you decide, I wish you the best! If ya need to chat feel free to message me!

Thank you both for your responses. I am still BFing and I don't plan on stopping til I have the pills in my hand atleast. I still have to get the $115 and find time for the appt. so I still have time to decide for sure. I also am having trouble nursing her b/c she has Torticollis( a muscle spasm in her neck and it forces her to tilt her head to the left) so it's making it hard for her to nurse. I have been having to supplment more.. so that is another reason for quiting. So, technically it's not just for me to be able to take phen. I am still nursing as much as I can and I think I am going to try and make it to the new year atleast. Oh, and about it not working as good as the 1st time... It may not, but it did work REALLY well for me and I only used it for 3 months straight then waited a few months then took them for 2 months. I haven't taken them since July 2007. I think I will still see pretty good results, even if they are not as good as the 1st time.

The Pediatrics' Council put out a statement years ago saying that breastfeeding for one year is the best thing you can do for your child to feed him/her, because it is perfectly suited to their little bodies and will give them immunity from all the inquisitive strangers that touch their faces!

My advice? Wait as long as you can. You'll not regret it. Eat some form of protein every 3 hours and no sweets. Here's what I did:

I quit bfing Amelia at 4 1/2 months to take the phen. I weighed the pros and cons and felt a happy mommy was just as beneficial for her
She got bm for 4 1/2 months, and I felt it was time...
Totally your OWN decision, momma.

I have been weiging the pros and cons too and I feel like I could be a better mom if I were happier with my weight. I don't want to be selfish, but I think I do need to finally do something for ME. I am always on MOMMY mode. I am ready to reclaim my body back and start getting healthy and happy. If i wait til Jan. 1st to to stop bfing she will have gotten about 4 months of bm and I think that is better than nothing. I also don't think it would be smart to start phen around the holidays. I know with all the yummy food I would cheat a lot and probably won't lose very much. So, I figure if I make it my new years resolution, i may do better.Did you regret your decision to stop??

Hey Girl this is your choice!! My first I was so young really didn't breast feed, my second I breast feed for 4 months and felt it was time for ME to stop. It is not for everyone, you do feel that you are chained so to say to that and is it wrong to feel that way, No, tis is life. Your baby is going to be better off with a mother that is happy than a mother that is unhappy. Good luck to you!!
