I just went to my PCP and was telling him that my Gyn. gave me a prescription for Phentermine. He immediately told me he did not wanting me taking anymore because it can cause heart problems. My pulse was up to 121 and my BP was 118/84.
This seems to be aiding in my weight loss effort, but it definitely is NOT worth the risk of something like Heart problems. I have 2 kids to live for and it seems ironic that a medicine to help an overweight person lose weight would have such possibility.
Any thoughts? Anyone else have the same discussion with a Dr?

My primary doctor prescribed it to me because i was getting diabetic and with high blood presure. but to be honest with you i heard about this for othrt peson. i am not know to much about this but i herd that the med that was befor of phenermine was causing this such a problem and that is way the removed it from the market. i do not remember the name. anyways i am inthis medicine a month alreeady but i guess you can not attach to it forever. it is a style life change. i you get something about this please let us know i do not wamt to play with my life neither. i wil ask my aunt who is a doctor up in new york and let you know her opinion but the problem is that she is to eceptic to drugs to loose weigth. i remeber when xenical get first was in the market and i was consuming this but she refuses to give me any prscription because it was new and she did not know the side effects. anywyas i did not continue with it becsause it was so expensive by then. i am taking only 15mg wich i think is not that bad but still you have to take care of what you put in you r body and has to be under medical suopervision. it is weird that one doctor recomends you that and the other one says no. could be something to be with medical insurances??? i do not know. keep me inform because i also think that it will be a price too high to pay, however be overwegth is also a high risk to anybody ans especially for the heart. thanks

If your normal dr says that it is unsafe for you to take because it has raised your pulse and messed up your blood pressure, then by all means, stop taking it. It definately is not worth the risk at all.

A lot of drs still associate phentermine with the old rx combination phen-fen that did cause some very serious problems for some people. It is not prescribed as a combination anymore, but the other drug...fen something was the main cause of the problems, not the phentermine. It was found that phentermine when used alone can be safe and very useful to lose weight.

But if you are experiencing problems, I am glad that you spoke to your dr because it can be unsafe for some, that is why there is so much preaching here about seeing your dr while on it, and why it became illegal to purchase without a drs prescription. I am sorry that he feels it is unsafe for you.

Good luck to you.
