To answer the general issue here, yes, it is safe to split pills. If they are designed with scores on the tablets, then they are made to be split and have a balance of the active ingredient in each portion of the pill.
The FDA and DEA has recently been encouraging this to help people save money on drugs since sometimes buying a months supply of a higher dose and splitting it yourself can actually work out to be cheaper than just buying the supply of the prescribed dose.
This could save you significant money if you have to pay for your own meds or have a large co-pay.
