That 2nd form of a check is really important. Doctors are human, they miss things. Patients do not know all of the interaction problems. Pharmacists are an important tool for everyone to make sre they are not taking something they shouldn't be taking with their meds. This includes other prescriptions and over the counter meds. People need to ask their pharmacist questions about what they are taking.

Well Effexor is an SSNRI, and they usually do not have as much of a weight gain effect as the regular SSRIs. I was taking Zoloft, and put on a good bit, but since switching to Cymbalta, which is an SSNRI like Effexor, I have been losing it all.

Hi, I have a background in mental health and the psychiatrist I have worked with always said the ssri and ssnri basically work the same the only differnece between the different meds are side affects which are different for everyone. I think maybe those of you on Effexor should check out with the Dr. just to make sure. Did any of you loose a lot at first and just stop for a while.? I have been on for a week and three days and lost 7 lbs but nothing since four days ago. How much water should I drink?

And that is not entirely correct, they are different because they work on different brain chemicals. SSRIs work on seratonin only, SSNRIs work on both Seratonin, and Norepinephrine, which of course changes the basic effects it has on your body, and how well they work for some people.

Yes, you are correct in that one had a different affect but they both work with the seratonin levels and I think that was the concern so I imagine both families of meds. should be discussed with the M.D. just to be safe.

I just noticed this thread being read aand wanted to tell most of the board that if their doctors and pharmacists are aware of any interactions with your medicines, their computer checks will pull up on their info before you are given any pills. What this poster is talking about is the mix from taking too much of anything affecting seratonin re-uptake. Called "Seratonin Syndrome", it CAN happen but is extremely unlikely for those taking phentermine from their doctors.

An example of a BAD and DANGEROUS mix would be Prozac, 5-HTP, phentermine and St John's Wort taken together. Make certain to check your herbal supplements, too, and run their ingredients through a universally accepted medical interaction website.(Not a nutritional supplement site, which might not be updated!) Try WebMD - Better information. Better health.

Let me know through a PM if you have any questions I might help answer for you.

In my newbie thread I mentioned that I was on other medicine and wanted it out of my system before taking the phentermine.
What I had not mentioned that the medicine I took was an anti depressant, wellbutrin (Doc gave it to me hoping I'd loose weight on it). I stopped it 5 days ago because it was not doing anything, so he told me to stop and gave me the phen. I guess I'm glad I did what I did.
