This is a really interesting thread! I had no idea you can take it that long! I started Phen 4 months ago. It stopped working after 3 weeks, but I kept on taking it for 8 weeks. Finally I realized I had to quit becase it wasn't doing anything. I was afraid to go cold turkey, but I did, with no problems at all. Probably because I hadn't been taking it that long.

I took 2 weeks off, and am now back on it for 3 days. I have felt some appetite suppression, but not as much as the first time.

I take Welbutrin, and my doctor gave me a schedule for weaning off it and finally discontinuing it. I have to tell you that I got depressed, and started back on it, but here was the schedule:

1st week - M Th W F Su
2nd week - Tu Th Sa M
3 week - W Sa M
4th week - Tu Th

I have been on Phentermine for one month. Well, since I took more than one pill a day for several days during that month, it has only been about 3 weeks.

Today is my first day without pills. I can not get in to see my doctor for another week. Although I am feeling good today, I am worried about the coming days. I hope withdrawals are not as bad as I have read.

Phentermine can be a very safe, effective medication to aid in weight loss if it is being monitored by your dr. Most any kind of prescribed medication can be considered addictive if not used properly.

This is also a weight loss AID, not the quick fix magic pill. It will HELP you lose the weight by giving you the ability to change your lifestyle. Don't just take this and think that it is going to do all the work for you....yes, you will have loss without doing anything, but what happens when you stop taking it and have not changed any of the things or bad habits that got you to where you felt you needed the medicine to begin with? You will go right back to where you were probably. That is why you will hear us talking about how important it is to monitor your diet and exercise. These are things that will allow you to keep the weight off once you reach your goal!!!

I'm sorry if I am sounding a little bossy here, but it is something that I believe in very strongly. I like to say that phentermine is just ONE tool in your toolbox. The others are diet and exercise. Without all three you can't fix anything.

Chaq, I know that for me, the only way I knew they worked in helping my willpower and desire to eat healthy foods, was in hindsight.

That was the ONLY time in very many years that I was able to lose. More important is to teach your body new tricks and ways to include everything you now crave, in different amounts than ou have until now. Stay on until you lose all you want to lose, then start branching out into a few bites of birthday cake.

YOU CAN do THIS!

Chaq and all my fellow posters,

I know exactly what you mean. Although my weightloss expectations have been met this past month with pills--I still feel powerless to food. The test came when I was without pills, and I failed. I really wanted to manage my food intake so I wouldn't have to go back to the doc. But, I don't feel I am there yet. I will see the doc one more time, then hopefully never again. I will be more conscience this time and incorporate exercise with food management. Everybody on this site who keeps talking about this is absolutely right. Be warned: Changing your lifestyle is the only way to be pill-free! I didn't understand it before, but I do now entirely. Those who are new to Phentermine (or any other weightloss pill) and/or new to this site, heed the warning.

It really upsets me when a 20 year old girl comes to work and says, "I lost five lbs and I eat all the time!" I reply, "Just wait until you hit 30-35 years old. All that will change." Be glad now, because you will be crying later.

Respectfully,
Oanh
