I just read that Phentermine/Prozac combo is effective for some people, has anyone tried this?

Prozac is not good for anyone unless they need an anti-depressant. So if anyone is taking Prozac wiht Phentermine is because it sometimes makes you have mood swings but it should only be prescribed by your doc. I think taking on prescription at a time is more than enough.

Thank you for what I assume is general concern, but I allready take Prozac, have for years. I was wondering if what I read was true that they would/should have a good effect together. The last time I took Phentermine for a long period of time I was on Paxil (I believe) I have been on different meds at different times, but it was either Paxil or Zoloft. Either or, I lost a LOT of weight that time. But I think it was just the newness of the Phentermine. Does that make sense? Anyway........I was hoping the Prozac/Phentermine combo would be good, which I have read. I also started taking a Multivitamin, Fiber, Calcium, and Chromium Picolinate, oh and B12.

Hi. I am new to this forum, just got the phentermine so don't know how it will work for me.

I do however, have a very experienced opinion of PROZAC. I was on Prozac for 14 years for depression. It is a great antidepressent. HOWEVER, the latest research on Prozac has shown that it aids in WEIGHT GAIN. I gained over 50 pounds in the years I took it, despite much dieting. Several friends on Prozac report the same results. And several online weight loss doctors confirm that Prozac either causes weight gain or prevents weight loss. SO, Prozac is a great antidepressant but it will not help most people with weight loss. Altered Appetite and Weight --Significant weight loss, especially in underweight depressed or bulimic patients may be an undesirable result of treatment with Prozac.
In US placebo-controlled clinical trials for major depressive disorder, 11% of patients treated with Prozac and 2% of patients treated with placebo reported anorexia (decreased appetite). Weight loss was reported in 1.4% of patients treated with Prozac and in 0.5% of patients treated with placebo. However, only rarely have patients discontinued treatment with Prozac because of anorexia or weight loss ( see also Pediatric Use under PRECAUTIONS ).
In US placebo-controlled clinical trials for OCD, 17% of patients treated with Prozac and 10% of patients treated with placebo reported anorexia (decreased appetite). One patient discontinued treatment with Prozac because of anorexia ( see also Pediatric Use under PRECAUTIONS ).
In US placebo-controlled clinical trials for bulimia nervosa, 8% of patients treated with Prozac 60 mg and 4% of patients treated with placebo reported anorexia (decreased appetite). Patients treated with Prozac 60 mg on average lost 0.45 kg compared with a gain of 0.16 kg by patients treated with placebo in the 16-week double-blind trial. Weight change should be monitored during therapy.

I'll weigh in here, since it all of a sudden has become an active thread...

I have been on Prozac for a number of years... I don't credit it with weight gain or loss, although when I first started taking it I hoped like crazy the serotonin burst which I so desperately needed would kill my appetite. And it did. For a few weeks. And then I became me again, with my regular ol appetite... just without the dark clouds following me around day and night.

I agree that Prozac should only be taken by those with a diagnosed depressive disorder as prescribed and monitored by a physician. Side effects differ from person to person... some easier to deal with than others. I say, if you need Prozac for mental health reasons, like I do, then by all means go for it. But if you don't, then by all means don't!

I have never experienced any weight gain with Prozac BUT it is kinda like the pill..some people do some don't
