Well, I got the phentermine online, a 3 month supply. Started taking it and it was working beautifully. Then I found out my mother has lung cancer. Being a smoker myself, it frightened me substantially. I also promised my mother I would quit. So here I am, trying to diet and quit smoking at the same time and it's quite hard, but manageable on most days.

Down to the problem. I'm using the nicotine patch along with the phentermine and noticed feeling lightheaded, dizzy and a little numb all over. When my ears started ringing, I was afraid I might be having a stroke so I ran myself down to the poor-folks' doctor (the walmart blood pressure machine) and sure enough, my blood pressure was high and I was experiencing tachycardia (rapid heartbeat).

Now we have a dilemma. I haven't completely quit smoking yet, but have reduced from 2 packs a day to 2 cigarettes a day, and for me, that's quite an accomplishment. So I'm not gonna drop the nicotine patches just yet.

So I tried laying off the phentermine for about a week and my blood pressure came back down to normal. But in the meantime, I gained back the 5 pounds I'd lost taking it.

So this is what I've been doing for two weeks now: Monday-Friday, I take the phentermine, then lay off it for the weekend. And it seems to be doing the job, giving my body just enough rest from it, but I can't seem to drop any pounds doing this. Any other suggestions?

I am by no means an expert, but I also went to the WalMart blood pressure machine and it said my blood pressure was 154/94, which for me is incredibly high. I got in to see my doctor the same day and after I explained it all to him and told him that I was blaming the Ionamin he took my BP again and it was my normal 110/74.

He also told me that those machines aren't always accurate.

Is is possible that part of your symptoms are due to stress? I know when I try to quit smoking, I get very lightheaded. Just a thought!

Take care of yourself.

you might try taking a day or two then laying off a day. Which kind are you taking?
