I find this all very interesting. Some doctors are totally on board with prescribing phen and others refuse. I asked both of my regular doctors and they said no. One because she said it is habit forming and the other said no because he thinks it doesn't work. There was no convincing either. Then I tried a new lady doctor that advertises "diet plans", and viola, she has phen as part of her plan. You pay $150 up front and
$45 for every visit thereafter. Very expensive but worth it to me if it works. The first visit is a complete physical with ekg, bloodwork, urinalysis, b/p, fat/body ratio measurements, the works. They send off the lab work and then call you back and start you on the phen. She also took an insulin resistant blood test as she thinks this is a major problem for me. She prescribed the Metformin diabetic drug to take with the phen. She wrote me an RX for this. I also take Armour for hypothyroidism. Also....I take CLA on my own which is a natural supplement that is suppose to help metablize fat (it is also a great regulator, if you know what I mean).
Anyway..........I go back Tuesday and hopefully I will get my phen. She wanted me to get started staight away on the Metformin but I have decided I do not want to take it. I've read up on it and I would rather not unless I find that I am, indeed, insulin resistant and really need this medication.
She would have given me the phen already to begin but they were out of it. We together decided on my taking the 37.5 tablet and splitting it to see if I did well on a lesser dose. They dispense the phen at the doctors office and she does not write an RX for it. This makes me soooo curious. Why??? The $45 follow up visit will include the phen, but I think it is only a week supply so this keeps you coming back weekly. I am going to give this a try for a few weeks but I am a little bit upset to have to get the med from her directly rather than an RX. I guess this is her way of keeping control of the situation which can be a good thing and keep me on track.
She also mentioned that she will give me B-12 shots on request. So thats my story!
