I just went to a clinic yesterday to get my Phentermine. I am going to be paying $150 a month, but it includes a lot of things. I have to check in there once a week. I get a B5,B6, B12 injection every week. The nurse says it gives you great energy. I get a multi vitamin to take once a day. I get PiChrome 200mg. And I also get my Phentermine 30 mg. white pill with blue specks in it. I feel more comfortable going to a clinic for this. They detail a meal plan for you and recommended exercise. This is a lot of money but it's what I was looking for. I need to get things under control and the guidence helps.

How has your progress been so far?

My family doctor refused to give them to me, even at 230 lbs.! (His wife was a nutritionist... she couldn't help me either!)

A "walk-in" clinic gave me one month of med at a time, but were very hard-nosed if I didn't lose. But, that was great because (the first time) I stayed on 3 months and lost 30 pounds.

A few years later, and across town, I found a clinic that gave 3 months of med. No pressure to lose, as long as everything "else" was in normal range. I called for a 3 month refill, just for the heck of it. (New year and didn't want to pay deductible.) They filled it without question (at least the first time!) but I decided to bite the bullet and wean off. They had stopped working long before!

My insurance co-pay is $15.00 for one month.

I always ask for 15 mg capsules 2x daily, because you can make them last longer, and are easier to wean from.

I have been going to a clinic called Internet Medical Clinic, and there is one in my hometown in Texas. It costs $120 for two months. Initially you are given an exam, meal plans, B-12 injection with metabolism booster, thyroid screening, and 2 month supply of phentermine and Triam-Hctz (diuretic). I then go each week to get the B-12/metabolism booster shot which cost $15/week. At the end of 2 months, they ask that you get off the pills for at least 2-3 weeks, but you can still take the shots. After the break, you have to start with the same process in order to begin a new 2 month program. If your BMI is within the normal range based on your weight and height, they will NOT let you get back on the program. Only if you are still considered overweight or obese. I have been on the program for 3 sessions with taking a month of in between each session. I have lost a total of 37 lbs. Started at 151.5 and am now 114.8 lbs. I am 5'0" tall.

I go to my family doctor for mine.. I was at my highest weight of 262 a few months ago. I have been doing many different things over the years to try to lose it, both doctor advised and just the hum drum diet and exercise. Nothing seemed to work. 2 people I know went on phentermine and lost TONS of weight and it seemed to make them feel better and they looked great! I did a lot of online research on it and then after getting all the info I needed, I asked my doctor about it. She seemed very hesitant about giving it to me and told me it should only be used to "jump start" a healthier lifestyle. Which I agree with totally! I have been on it 2 months and since that doctor visit I have lost 25lbs. I get a monthly prescription and go in for a weight and blood pressure check each month. I reccomend keeping track of your blood pressure.. I have read up that Phentermine can be dangerous to people with high blood pressure. I hope you reach your weight loss goal and become the Happy and Healthy person we all want to be!

I find this all very interesting. Some doctors are totally on board with prescribing phen and others refuse. I asked both of my regular doctors and they said no. One because she said it is habit forming and the other said no because he thinks it doesn't work. There was no convincing either. Then I tried a new lady doctor that advertises "diet plans", and viola, she has phen as part of her plan. You pay $150 up front and
$45 for every visit thereafter. Very expensive but worth it to me if it works. The first visit is a complete physical with ekg, bloodwork, urinalysis, b/p, fat/body ratio measurements, the works. They send off the lab work and then call you back and start you on the phen. She also took an insulin resistant blood test as she thinks this is a major problem for me. She prescribed the Metformin diabetic drug to take with the phen. She wrote me an RX for this. I also take Armour for hypothyroidism. Also....I take CLA on my own which is a natural supplement that is suppose to help metablize fat (it is also a great regulator, if you know what I mean).

Anyway..........I go back Tuesday and hopefully I will get my phen. She wanted me to get started staight away on the Metformin but I have decided I do not want to take it. I've read up on it and I would rather not unless I find that I am, indeed, insulin resistant and really need this medication.

She would have given me the phen already to begin but they were out of it. We together decided on my taking the 37.5 tablet and splitting it to see if I did well on a lesser dose. They dispense the phen at the doctors office and she does not write an RX for it. This makes me soooo curious. Why??? The $45 follow up visit will include the phen, but I think it is only a week supply so this keeps you coming back weekly. I am going to give this a try for a few weeks but I am a little bit upset to have to get the med from her directly rather than an RX. I guess this is her way of keeping control of the situation which can be a good thing and keep me on track.
She also mentioned that she will give me B-12 shots on request. So thats my story!

I went to my Family Dr. on June 13, 2006, in my mind thinking that I wanted the gastro by pass. A friend of mine did it and looks great. Did research was kind of scared about it. But when I started talking to the doctor and brought my medical records in with me from the military post, we moved so we carry them with us. Since we are starting to see regular Docs, anyway I showed him my labs, which were normal, and the appointments where I discussed my weight and what my goals are. He said he has the perfect solution for me. He prescribed the Phentermine 37.5 I knew nothing about this meds. I am happy I am on it and I am happy he is a great DOC who actually cares about his patients. I go for a follow up tomorrow. I also go see the cardiologist tommorrow also. When my husband was in the desert I felt like if I fell asleep I would not wake up and then had problems breathing. It was just a panic attack but he wants a cardiologist to look just to put me at ease.

What are B-12 shots? I also found out that my insurance does not cover the Phentermine, but yet they do cover the gastro bypass how much sense does that make. That is ok, I just include the Phentermine in as part of our groceries.

I go to Medi Weight Loss Centers in Florida. I knew my family doc would likely not prescribe them to be because I was only 30-35 lbs. overweight (although still in a decent BMI). I pay $65 a week which pays for a B6 (I think?) shot, vitamins, blood pressure check and weigh in and my pills. Expensive - maybe - but going somewhere keeps you accountable and makes you less likely to cheat on the diet plan I think. Plus I love the scale they have - it prints out a little sheet that tells you what percent water, fat and muscle you are as compared to the prior week so even if you lose only 1 lb, but lost a larger percentage of fat and gained muscle - you feel good.
