I'm kind of shy :smirk: about walking into my doctors office and saying " Won't you prescribe phentermine for me?"

But at this point, a year of working out and forgoing treats and "normal" food, and still having a clothing crisis every morning, I'm about ready to crack :smt022

I'm 5'9 and about at 175. Not happy at all.

Anyway, I've been doing my homework and its seems one of my biggest problems is this insatiable appetite I have. Its not that I eat the wrong things, its just that I am famished every hour and a half. I've been tested for diabetes ( and the test was a big nope) and my thyroid is perfectly happy.

So I guess my question is to those who have had their doctors prescribe phentermine, how did you go about asking for it?

Thanks for your help!

Well, for one I know my Doc pretty well! He's been around my whole family and I'm very confortable w/ him. That helped!
The way I asked was that I just looked at him, and said I have been trying SO hard to lose weight and it's just not working for me. I told him everything that I had been doing to make the lbs's drop. Just tell him/her that you are exercising, that you are eating right and taking care of yourself. Then tell him/her that you have heard of Phentermine and was wondering if they might could give you a "trial" prescription to see if they help any. This way, w/ the trial I mean, if it works he/she will notice that, if not you may need something different. That's the way I went about it atleast. Hope I was of some help to you!

Amanda

I saw an endocrinologist, at the insistence of my primary care physician, for something else and we ended up talking about the weight. So ultimately the endo prescribed it for me, and my pcp seemed fine with it. Honestly it hadn't occurred to me to ask before then, even though I was around 250 lbs! I'm recovering from an eating disorder so asking my pcp for this would have been a little difficult for me too - I wouldn't want her to think I was coming at this weight loss in anything but a super positive way. But she seemed really happy that I was dropping the weight slowly and carefully and not obsessively. Somedays I am frustrated by it going so slowly but I know for me that slowly is critical because of my past.

Good luck to you. I'm sure you'll do great. Ellen

PS: Oh, you know a lot of people here have gone to "diet doctors" specifically for this. Maybe you could try that?

I finally went to my pcp because the cost of phen on the internet is so high and I wanted my insuarance to pay instead of me. Well, I have an eating disorder and OCD and to my amazement, phentermine has been prescriped for both of these disorders, and before ADD and ADHD came along, many adults were misdiagnosed as kids as being depressed when actually they had ADD or ADHD and should have been given Adderrall or Dexedrine, instead of all of the anitdepressants that were prescriped. So, today, I am going to an ADD/ADHD specialists via a referral from my pcp, to see if I am really ADD or ADHD, and if she says yes, then she will start me on either Adderall or Dexedrine and my pcp will manage my precription, I will have to stop the phentermine, but Adderall and Dexedrine are both much stronger than phentermine.

Wish me luck got to go in 15 minutes.

my skinny primary care doctor told me she thought I didn't need phen that I could do it on my own (I guess like her) so I went to a diet doctor.

Wow your lucky..my endro that treats my Hypothyroidism wouldnt hear of it.. The family doctor said do weight watchers or TOPS blah blah.. So by word of mouth thru friends that Know of the county "diet doctor" so I had been going to him since i was 17.. weight watchers meal plan works but 1-you have to be dedicated to the meal plan!! 2-you have to have MONEY for that meal plan point system, lol! It gets very expensive to keep buying enough meals week to week.. Im not even gonna go in to how many I take in a days time but one can imagine being Im 33 now.. Im well aware what im doing to myself and have done so please ,I dont need to be educated on it,lol. Tolerance guys, will happen regardless of 5htp or anything else you can think of ,exvept if you take a long break inbetween.,loose the weight, and join a gym.. if you gain 10 pounds back then go at it again. I WISH I DID!

 :-k It is really a problem because of our current health insurances. I see it more and more every day and it is only getting worse. Most Doctors (especially your PCPs) are reluctant to prescribe too much. When it is a weight control product they are even more leery about giving out that script. The HMOs control the Docs, the treatments and the amount of written prescriptions. The Docs actually make more money if they are writing less scripts, ordering less testing and in general, the more money the Insurance Co. is saving, the bigger the incentive for the Doc. This is why I think that every town has at least 1 or more "DIET DOCTORS" Most overcharge, do not carry malpractice insurance and just hand out pills. Some of them too freely. This is 1 of the biggest reasons why a lot of people end up at the internet pharmacies. They really dont end up having much of a choice. As long as you are very, very careful where you are ordering And please If you choose not to order from this site do your homework before you place that order. Stay away from the overseas pharmacies, you not only never know what you will get if anything and even I sometimes will not recognize what is sent and I am a pharmacist. So again, be choosy where you order, if you dont recognize the pill when delivered do not take it until someone can tell you if it even is the "real deal" I am not trying to push the recommended pharmacies on this site but at least you know the reputation and will be safe. If it sounds to good to be true, it usually is.  :( :( Cheaper is not necessarily always better!
