 Help! After reading how 2nd timers on phentermine lost a lot of weight the first time around, then gained it all back plus some when they went OFF phentermine, I must know: Is there something inherent in the phentermine itself that causes this or is it because new habits of healthy eating were not applied? Do you somehow use up less calories after having taken phen?

Honestly, and this is speaking from experience here...I think it' s because the don't stick with what they learned while taking the Phentermine. They assume that the Phen is making them lose the weight when it's really them doing it themselves. I know when i stopped taking it over a month ago, and moved and have been sick and blah blah blah in between, I have gained 5lbs back...but that's because I haven't been working to lose more or maintain. Once you come off of the Phentermine, you MUST remember what got you to lose all that weight to begin with. And that was eating right, and exercising and taking in all that water. To maintain you still have to eat right, you know what things are good and bad by now, and exercise 3-4 days a week still. If you go back to doing the things you were doing before dieting and taking the Phen, You WILL gain weight back. No Doubt.
I don't think there is anything in the Phen that makes you gain weight once off of it. I think that it's entirely up to a person to keep that weight off and not slack.

Thanks for the quick answer, Amanda. I was hoping the phen was not the cause of the weight gains but was getting puzzled the more I read the posts! I began thinking that even if I lost, I would forever be on phen to keep from gaining it back.
I must be VERY careful to keep my diet a lifetime-type, healthy eating plan and start drinking water all day, every day. I will take the phen as long as this one prescription is working. I hope my willpower is stonger than the desire to eat more than my body needs. I have about 30 pounds that need to come off. So far, so good!

I really think you can do it Susan! It's hard...so so hard, but like I said...we all know how to do it now. It's just a mind over matter type of thing and I think we can all achieve that!
Besides, when we are done losing...who says we have to leave here? We come here for support now, it will still be here when we're done losing!
We can SOOO DO THIS!

I've heard the same thing-it's alot easier to blame the pill than our own lifestyles.
There is no magic pill. No matter how you lose your weight, if you go back to eating the way you did before, you WILL gain it back. There is no celebration or freedom to eat whatever you want once you reach your goal.
I used phentermine several years ago, after the birth of my first child. I didn't gain any weight back for 2 1/2 years, and the reason I did then was because I got pregnant again. I didn't continue to take it after I lost the weight, which took about 3 months. So it is possible to lose it and keep it off, and phen doesn't cause weight gain. But if we don't go into this with the mindset that we have to change our eating/exercise habits permanently, we are wasting our time and money.

YOU WILL GAIN YOUR WEIGHT BACK! Unless you have adpoted a healthy lifestyle of eating right and exercising. It is NOT the majic drug...it helps but you have to do the work....HAVE TO or it will all come back and alot of the time more weight comes
