Hi Crystal!
I went to my regular doctor and asked for a prescription also. Not for anything specific-I did tell him I had taken phen before and it worked, but I asked him for whatever he recommended. That didn't work. He said he didn't prescribe weight loss meds because they are "speed", and they are addictive. He just told me to exercise and gave me a piece of paper with the same low-cal low-fat diet they've given everyone since the 70's, and acted annoyed that I wasted the office time on something that was my fault. I was pissed, to say the least.
I think it has more to do with who the doctor is-some doctors don't have much sympathy for the problem of overweight. I hope you have better luck than me, but if you have an hmo and a jacka** for a doctor like I do, just order them online. I paid $110 for 3 months worth, so by the time I would have paid my copays for the doctor's visit once a month and on the prescription, it didn't turn out to be much more even without the insurance.
