Hi, I am new here!

Tomorrow, I am going to ask my Dr for a scrip for Phentermine. I am nervous that he will say no. Do you know what doctors are typically looking for when they decide to prescribe diet pills?

I am 5'7.5''--- 195 lbs, have been dieting and exercising for two years and can't seem to beat the appetite/craving and energy problems I am having. I have been trying to lose the same 30-40 pounds since 2004 and I am just fed up.

Any advice?

Hi CrystalOHIO2006, Phentermine is usually prescribed for short term use(8-12 weeks)and you should have a body mass index of at least (29). At your height and weight you have (roughly) about a 30 B.M.I. Providing you have no underlying health problems, you shouldn't have a problem obtaining a script. dawg

Hi Crystal!
I went to my regular doctor and asked for a prescription also. Not for anything specific-I did tell him I had taken phen before and it worked, but I asked him for whatever he recommended. That didn't work. He said he didn't prescribe weight loss meds because they are "speed", and they are addictive. He just told me to exercise and gave me a piece of paper with the same low-cal low-fat diet they've given everyone since the 70's, and acted annoyed that I wasted the office time on something that was my fault. I was pissed, to say the least.
I think it has more to do with who the doctor is-some doctors don't have much sympathy for the problem of overweight. I hope you have better luck than me, but if you have an hmo and a jacka** for a doctor like I do, just order them online. I paid $110 for 3 months worth, so by the time I would have paid my copays for the doctor's visit once a month and on the prescription, it didn't turn out to be much more even without the insurance.

Well, I went to the doc and she turned me down flat. Guess I'm off to order online. Thanks for your input folks! By the way, I learned that I am 5'6", 194.5... BMI 30-31.

Be back later with more details about starting the Phentermine. :-)

I'm lucky, my doctor has prescribed Phentermine for me a couple times. The only problem is ... the 2nd time I went back, I was sort of embarrassed that I'd put (some) weight back on.... so you can imagine how I felt the 3rd time! ... so ... I orderd online to save myself the embarrassment.
