Hi Dawg
I just know you are the one who would know the answer to this! I am a little confused by the types of Phentermine.

37.5 white tablets - (Adipex-P and its generics?)
30 mg. capsules
15 mg. capsules
Ionamin - which doesn't have a generic?

I have heard that the 37.5 tablets have only 30 mg. of Phentermine. The inserts says to not break the tablet up. Is it time released?

I was under the impression that only the Ionamin in a resin base is time-released. But the 30 mg. and 15 mg. generics say not to cut the capsule, which makes me think they are time released too.

What's the truth?

You are correct about Ionamin, it is the only resin based phentermine and the 15mg. and 30mg. have 15mg. and 30mg. Most of the phentermine HCL do have less then you would think. First, I better clear this up. I always say it too, and I don't think, as a pharmacist, there is any real distinction. There is, technically no time released phentermine, it is called, "long acting or long lasting" :eek: :eek: :eek: :eek: :eek: :smt117 First of all Pure Pac is the only phentermine that isn't considered long lasting. Adipex manufactures both a tablet and a capsule with 37.5mg. Adipex actually has 37.5mg. in both tablet and capsule. Most of the 30mg capsules have 24mg. of phen and the 15mg caps have 12mg. in them. Are you with me? The 37.5mg tablets with a couple exceptions have 30mg. of phentermine in them. Here's something that will ad to the chicken chase

My doctor prescribed 37.5 Adipex-P for me, and the generic for Adipex-P that I recieved is made by Pure Pac.

Soooooo, I got the one that is not long-acting? That sort of makes sense, as it doesn't seem to work at all for me.

I have taken 4 days off Phentermine, and want to try to take two weeks off. We'll see how long I can last!!

Hi Jas, Your Doc wrote you a script for?? Did it actually say on the script, Adipex-P and 37.5mg.'s? If it did, the pharmacist messed up a little. Did you request the generic? As I said the Adipex-P tablet or capsule have 37.5mg. of phentermine and PurePac, 37.5mg. oval and white has 30mg.'s in it. There is a reason that the Phentermine HCL have less mg.'s than stated. If you remember, did the script specify tab or caps? You may have a possible reason to have them re-fill or "fill" correctly the first time what your script calls for. The prescription said Adipex-P. It probably had "may substitute" checked, so I don't think I would have much of a case :(

I'm looking at the new prescription from my doc that I haven't filled yet. It says Adipex-P (generic) 37.5 mg #30 T.A.D. May substitute is checked.

The good thing about my doctor, is he usually will give me whatever I ask for. Next time if I want 37.5 mg., I have to take Adipex-P, brand name, right?

Hi Jas, You mean somebody else enjoys the 'smilies' not just me? I know, I know, I go overboard with them. I just can't help myself, sometimes. Anyway, even if your Doc has not specified BRAND MEDICALLY NECESSARY, it does not mean you must have the generic. Some insurance companies force you to accept it if it comes in generic form. You, in that case would be required to pay the difference. I don't know what kind/type insurance you have, but I have a Keystone HMO, it isn't one of the greatest HMO's either. If I have a script and the doc has not signed for brand,(Heheheh ) I'm filling my own? The only thing I or any customer has to do is sign the back of the script stating that they requested the 'brand' one. Keystone isn't the only HMO that allows it, at no extra charge to you either. The script that you recently had filled, you said was Purepac? The point I was trying to make, I :razz: guess got lost in the shuffle of that post, was Adipex-P is long lasting (time released, no matter what they say) :razz: and has the full 37.5 mg.'s. Purepac, 37.5 has 30mg's and isn't time released, :P :razz: so technically speaking you didn't get the correct one. Heck, it's only Walgreens - I think I will push the issue - I had to pay it myself. My drug insurance is Caremark and the only way they would pay for Phen is if my doctor called and made a racket - I didn't even ask him to.
