can't take this pill anymore..

I have been taking phentermine (30mg) for a week now and It has really worked for me in suppresing my appetite. the only problem is that I have been experiencing weird feelings more like anxiety attacks. It really scares me . I feel my chest a little tight and I have to take deep breaths and I start feeling nervous and although I have managed to relax and calm down I didn't like those feelings. this is the 2nd. day I feel like that, and I just can't do it anymore. I am doing great with ecercise and diet. and I guess I have to continue on my own.

Phen is likely to increase your heart rate and in turn may feel like anxiety attacks, what can you do to ground yourself with them? What can you feel with bare feet? Touch with your hands? Smell, see and hear? Sounds rather straightforward for me to say, but to ground yourself is so important as in time it will become 2nd nature and you will find anxiety eases quicker.

Sorry that Phen hasn't worked for you. ( I am still waiting for mine to arrive!!)

:eek: Chely! You are so wise to stop the phentermine. :o I am so sorry I didn't respond to you earlier! I have heard our resident pharmacist say these symptoms are bad reactions, and you MUST listen to your body! Perhaps it has given you enough boost to jump-start your diet without continuing on anything!! Have you been giving that a good try?

I decided to give it another try.. I stoped the pills last week for about 5 days and I started taking them again on Satuday. I haven't felt those anxiety attacks anymore. I am getting diferent side effects now. my gums hurt and I am getting some minor hedaches. ( I can take that)
I havent weight myself yet I will wait until I complete another week. I will keep you informed.

Hi Chely, It would be a really good idea, to see your family doc for a physical. At the very least you should have a set of chest x-rays and an EKG. The tightness in your chest that you describe isn't a side effect, it's a reaction. A reaction is your body telling you you have a problem with the medication. Many people can't tolerate it. Please, be careful and if you should develop difficulty breathing or pain in your chest, you should seek medical attention immediately. Good Luck!

I want to know about your result. Is it better to start pills again. Do you feel any major side effects of this pill as you feel in previous week.

I did stop taking phen like 2 weeks ago. I couldn't toletare the side effects. I actually never had tightness in my chest I was experiencin g brething problems. (I felt like I constantly needed air in my lungs and that was scary. )
I went to see my dr. and She prescribed xenical. I started just a week ago and I am doing really good. next weight in will be tomorrow or monday. I take 2 pills a day. Although they are expensive. the thing I like about them is that they don't get in your blood and doesn't cause any jitters or other systoms like ephedra or phen. xenical eliminates 1/3 of fat you eat.
I try to follow a weight watchers diet and low fat so I really haven't had any ugly episodes other people talk about.

I knew right away phen wasn't for me. after I quit taking it I got really depressed and those feeling were awefull. I swore to myself never to take it anymore.
diet and xenical is doing it for me. I used xenical 7 years ago with a high fat diet and had great succes i think I los like 25 pounds in very little time.
