*sigh* I think I finally figured out where my question goes. lol Sorry... I'm a newbie, but I'm trying! Anyways.. re-posting from welcome forum.

I went to an (un-related) gynelogical appointment 1 week after being put on the phen. As the Dr. was reviewing my history, he basically ranted and raved about the dangers of this drug. Told me how it was banned many places, caused heart problems, he doesn't know why this wasn't banned along with the rest of it's drug family a while back. I complained of having soreness of my breasts and his response was "well.. let me give you the 85 page report of side effects from Phen and you can see if soreness is one of them!" He said that the risks far out-weighed the benefits since my health wasn't in immediate danger due to weight gain. He really made a huge deal and scared me. I get conflicting information from my PCP, so my question is... what kind of research have you done? or what makes you comfortable taking such a controversial drug?

Thanks for your input.

~Sarah

I actually go through my doctor's office to get my phentermine. She has a weight loss clinic in the office and gives me a prescription for 7 pills every Friday. I also take a water pill that they prescribe to me as well. I get a B-12 injection and weight in every time I go. They ask me if I have any side effects every time. I trust my doctor and she has seen me struggle with the weight loss. I have attempted to do the entire thing on my own, but hit a brick wall. I am not able to jog or run due to my knee surgeries last year. Getting the weight off and finding other ways of excercise are helping that. But my metabolism slowed down to where I was storing the calories into fat and my body wasn't burning them off at all. I have been on Phen since March 2nd and wouldn't have it any other way. Good luck with you weight loss... with or without it. It's a hard road and I wouldn't wish it on my enemy.

my doctor would not give me a script for phen, but then gave me a script for meridia, which has most of the same side effects as phen, and was reportedly banned by the fda? i dont know who to believe anymore. my sister got a prescription for phen from her pcp, he told her that most prescription weight loss meds have some side effects, and to use it wisely, and not for an extended period of time. so if your regular doctor prescribed them to you, i would work with him and let him monitor your blood presure, heart rate etc....

Every doctor has their own perspecitive on phen and I truly believe that it is helping me. Now, I cant even tell I have taken it. I dont know if it is because I take a low dose but I will let you know May 2nd when I go back to the doctor. She is going to increase my phen. I dont know if it will be to 30 or 37.5.

Phentermine by itself is very safe and very effective; however there is a huge potential for abuse and addiction. The addiction is not always physical but can also be psychological.

Many folks find this pill that really helps and against their better judgement, decide to stay on it and get it any way they can! Evidence is that so many folks feel they must find a way--any way--to get it. Many will order extra phentermine so it will be 'on hand' just in case. Some continue on it well after they arrive at their goal because they become convinced the pill will help them not gain any weight back.

A different way of eating and exercising is the only way to lose and keep it lost. A surprising 90% of dieters eventually gain back all their weight and more. Please, folks, if you find yourself with willpower, use it to re-learn healthy habits.

Safe? Yes. Desirable for all? Perhaps not. I think that is the concern of most physicians, that they may unwittingly help a compulsive type personalty become even worse off. Don't you think that must be it?

Meridia? Um....er.....better Google that one and see for yourself! Or use: WebMD - Better Information. Better Health. or Prescription Drug Information, Side Effects, Interactions - Drugs.com

Now, what have ya'll done? Tell us what you decide to try and how it works for you!

lifesavers- phentermine was not banned by the FDA, phen-fen was. Phentermine and fenfluramine used to be prescribed together- it was a very effective weight loss combo for a long time until some people developed heart valve problems and they stopped prescribing it together in the late 90's. Phentermine on it's own is not dangerous if taken correctly.
