Hi, Teeny1~
I think more than anything else does, if your food choices don'tchanged and you haven't learned healthy eating you won't have any deposits to draw on when the time comes. What I say is often so confusing that I confuse myself! In other words, maintaining is a matter of deposit and withdrawing the knowledge you deposited while your appetite was diminished and gave your body a chance to want to learn new ways. It is hard to do this. Any diet can work in order to lose weight: just don't eat anything but lettuce and bone soup and the weight will fall off. But it can't be sustained very long and when you stop your diet, which I liken to cold turkey, your old habits creep back in.
It isn't the withdrawal from phentermine, but the psychological dependence on it rather than depending on ourselves. I quit weaning off and again a couple months later cold turkey, successfully.
It is HARD work but you can retrain without phentermine. Help yourself over. Choose your daily foods from this group ONLY and see whether it makes a difference. Please let me know how you are doing after a week.

I "somewhat" disagree with you. It's a medical fact that phentermine can be addictive, both physically and psychologically. Therefore, having a physical dependency is very much a part of gaining weight when removing the drug suddenly, instead of gradually. Withdrawal symptons are very real, and can be very drastic (as in my case).

I appreciate your nutritional advice, and I understand that phen is not a "life long" cure. I definitely want to be successful without the drug, but without the drastic effects i've just experienced.

You are SO right! And this is one of several good places to post your question. I am ashamed that I assumed to know without looking this information up for you. I hate when I do that. I hope one of the other members will see this and speak to your question! Anyone?

From webmd:

Your doctor will adjust the dose to find the best dose for you. Use this medication regularly and exactly as prescribed in order to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same time(s) each day.
This medication is usually taken for only a few weeks at a time. It should not be taken with other appetite suppressants (see also Drug Interactions section). The possibility of serious side effects increases with longer use of this medication and use of this drug along with certain other diet drugs.
This medication may cause dependence, especially if it has been used regularly for an extended time or if it has been used in high doses. In such cases, withdrawal reactions (e.g., depression, severe tiredness) may occur if you suddenly stop this drug. To prevent withdrawal when stopping extended/regular treatment with this drug, gradually reduce the dosage as directed. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more details, and report any withdrawal reactions immediately.
Rarely, abnormal drug-seeking behavior (addiction) is possible with this medication. Do not increase your dose, take it more frequently, or use it for a longer time than prescribed. Properly stop the medication when so directed. This medication may stop working well after you have been taking it for a few weeks. Talk with your doctor if this medication stops working well. Do not increase the dose unless directed by your doctor. Your doctor may direct you to stop taking this medication.

And from docguide.com: Some people who have taken Phentermine for a long time may develop a need to continue taking it. People who take high doses ae also at risk. This is known as dependence or addiction. If you stop taking Phentermine suddenly, you may have withdrawal symptoms. These may include extreme tiredness, mental depression, trouble sleeping, irritability, or mental, mood or personality changes.

You will gain water weight back right away...but if you don't exercise and eat right while losing...you will go right back up

I had to go off it when I had a sinus infection. I'll admit, the first day I was too sick to care what I ate (maybe some soup and crackers). I had to take an antibiotic and my physician recommended coming off the phen. I was off it for 7 days total (I was on a z-pack and I forgot to take one day so I had to take it extra and I didn't take it the morning I went to the Dr's!). Anyway, I lost 3 pounds that week. I do feel that my eating habits have not been as good lately (more processed stuff and less all-natural. I'm typically a chicken, walnuts, salad -LOTS of salad- girl because I feel that's best overall.) I still need to kick it up a notch again, but otherwise I felt only slightly hungrier. My friend who had lost weight with phen said she felt that once she went off it was pretty easy to maintain because she had gotten used to the amounts of food. My food intake only seems to increase when I lower my water intake.

That's just been my personal experience, but I've only been on it for 6 weeks total (and one week I was off). Obviously, someone who has been on it a while may have a different experience.

Blessings,
Rene
