My wife is 210 pounds, 5 foot 4 inches, 28 years old. She has tried normal dieting by watching caloric intake and exercise and it just wasn't working out. She heard from a friend about Phentermine. She went to the doctor in November and got a 30-day prescription for Phen. She took the pills the first day and just barely felt it. Within the first week, she lost 5 pounds. She never felt anything after the first day. Over the remaining three weeks, she took her pills, exercised every three days (sometimes more), and watched her diet. She gained back the 3 pounds and had a really hard time (almost to tears sometimes) not eating more because of the pills. She was almost happy to get off of them because her hunger started to go back to normal.

When she went back to the doctor, it was really bad comforting her when she came home in tears. The doctor told her this was the best stuff, and that she just needed to stop eating so much and exercise and go get on Weight Watchers. She explained that she had tried this and hasn't been successful. (This is baby fat from a pregnancy 7 years ago and she has tried EVERYTHING natural to drop this weight). The doctor said to get on Weight Watchers or else she would never lose the weight and be fat forever.

Does anyone have any recommendations as far as alternative medication or alternative methods? If she has tried something that is mentioned, I will let you know.

Thanks so much.

Joe, I am sorry ya'll have had such a hard time. Each of us responds differently but probably 99% are helped with phentermine, 37.5 mg tablets, taken on an empty tummy with 8 ounces of water very early in the morning...I took mine (2006) about 5 am. After taking it, she should wait an hour before eating for optimal use.

I know this is probably something you have heard, but added into taking medicine, she also should:

1. Pre-plan her meals and snacks the day before and to eat 6x a day, counting calories, measuring portions each time. Calories should total 1,000-1,200 per day.

2. Always include a protein source because it helps regulate blood sugar levels. Dairy, nuts, meats, legumes, etc.

3. Drink watter all day long, at least 8 full glasses a day. It is a LOT at first, so she must count these out and journal them along with every bite or sip she takes.

4. Some sort of exercise daily, even if only 3 minutes a day. The KEY is to be consistent.

Please let me know!

Bontril is used by many who don't respond to phentermine.

Hi Joe, Susan is right. I was on phentermine 37.5 last summer and lost 23lbs in a month. I dranked nearly a gallon of water daily. I hate water, so I sliced fresh lemon and put it in my water, I also walked a mile a day, ate 6 small portions daily as well mostly protien. My doctor prescribed me to take it at 10 am every morning, but he gives a strict diet do's and don't papmhlet with times to eat and he also encouraged me to take vitamins as well. I got off of phentermine for a while and being that I am a stressful eater, I had some personal problems and gained a lot back. I am now back on the program, and doing well again. I started the pill on the 15th of december. I weighed 196 that day I have now lost 11lbs.

Hi susan, I am excited about your story. How long did it take you to lose your 30? I want to be 60lbs lighter by april. What should I do other than the 37.5?

60 pounds in 4 months is quite a goal. I wish you much success.
