Hello everyone, new here.
Been lurking a few days, reading people's experiences.
I thought I would post my first experience with this med.
Wednesday the 2nd, was my first day on Phen and I am completely wired. It is now 10:30am Thursday, never went to bed.I so sympathize with Squish T. Cat. I pulled this quote from the Phentermine testimonials thread.
Quote:
But the worst thing was that I found my jaw clenching and tightening to the point where I'd be in true pain by the end of the day.
I'm not aware when I clench my jaw, until it's sore. I think it's my body not knowing what to do with the chemical surge. Strange....I can also see my blood pulsating inside my eyelids when they're closed. Anyway, I know that 37.5mg is way too strong for me. Don't like the way this feels. But, on brighter side, absolutely no appetite. Food is about as interesting as the dirt on the carpet.
Will skip a day and start with half a tablet on Friday. I am hopeful that the med will help me kickstart a healthy eating pattern and allow me to break the bad habits I've developed.

I also wanted to mention, that I am one of those folks on fluoxetine, or generic Prozac. 10mg. The fluoxetine has remarkably reduced my cravings for carbs. So it will be interesting to see how this combined with Phen will effect my weight loss. I do understand the risks of Phen/fluoxetine and I am under a Doctors supervision. I think, staying aware of my state, and being in touch with my Doc will keep me safe on this journey.
This is the main reason I wanted to post, as a means to moniter the effects and changes, physical and mental while on this journey. And if it can inform and help others, even better.
Will keep checking in on other's progress, stories and continue to post my experience with this combo.

Welcome to PhenForum, AZ. I am terribly sorry for the reaction you have had. That's one of the main reasons I am an advocate of taking 1/2 a 37.5 mg pill once a day for that 1st week. You may find it works about the same.

We need sleep! Bless this gal with some shut-eye and bring her back 1/2 wired tomorrow.

Thank you Susan, shoulda checked your posts more thoroughly.
I'm still bobbing my head to internet music, while I type, while I walk down the hall, while I sit down and read mail. Head and knee are synched to da music. I'll be glad when i'm half wired.
Will let you know how it goes Friday.

Congrats on the 30 pounds!

Dear All...

I have been a Phen addict since Fen/Phen started back in the
90's. I have tried to go off once in awhile but then the weight came back so I went back on. No one tells you about the horrible things that Phen can do to your brain. It causes anxiety disorders, personality disorders and more. To try to help with the side effects my doctor decided to put me on Cymbalta AND phentermine. I developed a disorder caused by that horrible combination called Seratonin Syndrome. Please be careful with this stuff...as my neurologist says...it is POISIN! I now am weaning myself from 30mg per day carefully.. because of the possibility of seizures, if I go off the Phentermine too quickly.

Bottom line is this: NEVER ever take phentermine or any other diet pills with any other seratonin medicine which includes all anti-depressants, migraine medicines and even some cold medicines! The side effect of this combination is death.

Hi there AZ,

I have been on Prozac( now generic), Zoloft, tried Celexa, etc.
Lexapro for many years, about 5-7 for anxiety w/mild depression. FIRST, I can tell you that 10mg of Prozac, is an very LOW DOSE, most people take 20-40 mg. I am on 60 mg. of Cymbalta, and have been for over a year or 2 safely built up to it. I see Psych DR. ev. 3 mos. for med. mgmt.
She is fine w/ the 30mg of Phen, but asked me to watch my BP. My regular Dr. is also working w/me ev. 3-5 mos. for blood work and checks my BP, as well as i check at the food stores.
It was 166/108, before Phen-I was TOOOOO heavy and had bad asthma. **that is improving as well**
I am HAPPY to report, my BP is 130/83 these days and about 16-17 lbs. gone since 10/29/07. Everyone is diff. how they react, so pls. trust yourself and your Dr.'s.
I hope this makes you feel more at ease!

PS-You name the psych. drug I know about it, even Wellbutrin! Also, married to a Psych. major-GOD help me-13 years now!!!

5555 Thank you for your concern. I looked up the site, and will keep the info in mind. Can I ask what amounts you were taking of Phen and Cymbalta?

Hey 40momof2,
Thanks for the post. I agree. Important to stay monitered by a Doc and also be self-aware of body changes.
I've been on fluoxetine for 2 years. Started at 5mg. I definitely have a slight chemical imbalance, probably brought about by major stress from losing my real job 5 years ago and dealing with a terminally ill parent at the same time. For the last 5 months 10mg's seems to be just enough to cut the cravings for excess carbs. The fact that I completely stopped working out and removed all inhibitions to my bad food choices also didn't help my depression. So this put me at 185lbs.
Gained the last 25 in 8 months. I have a definite eating for stress issue.
I cut the Phen to 15 mgs until I get used to it. I plan to use it to help me with the diet change. BUT, the big effort will be to re-structure my eating pattern. I've always known how/what to eat but I haven't wanted to put myself on the program.....until now. The Doc wanted to put me on Wellbutrin, but I wasn't comfortable with it's risks. So have stuck with Fluox.
I'm glad to hear that your health has improved. I hope for the same. Your post is much appreciated.

Now to get on track and start the exercise routine............
