Hello. I've been taking phentermine for a week and a half now and I've lost 6 lbs so far. The first week, I only took a half a pill a day and then this past Saturday, I began taking a whole pill. For the past 4 days I have had the feeling like there is something stuck in my throat, i'm having difficulty swallowing and sore throat and my neck is tender. I've been to the Dr. twice and my thyroid is enlarged, so i'm waiting to hear about the lab results and I have to get an ultrasound of my thyroid. No Strep, I have no tonsils, idk what it could be....This didn't start until I started taking a whole pill. I haven't taken phentermine in 2 days to see if it would clear up...nothing. Has anyone else had this problem?? The main rationalization that I can come up with is that the phentermine could've caused my thyroid to be overworked, hence the enlargement....but, Idk, this is freaking me out!

Ok, this sucks....I wrote a reply to your post and I guess I spent too much time doing other things between the time I logged in and actually submitted the post because it logged me out without posting my text.
The long and short of what I said was...
I've been having throat problems for a little over a week. My glands are swollen and moderately painful. I am also coughing and clearing my throat often because I feel like there is gunk in my throat.
I did some research online and all the symptoms seem to point to post-nasal-drip as a possibility. There are other possibilities (some scary) that I'm hoping aren't applicable but I've made an appointment with an ENT just to be sure. I've never had this problem before so it's all new to me!
But, I wanted to make sure that your dr knows you are taking the phen. I don't think you said if it was the same dr that gave you the phen that you've been seeing for your throat. Make sure they know. Some of your symptoms sound like what I've had in the past with medication allergic reactions. I'm not saying it is, just relating a similar experience. I don't know if two days would be enough time to get the drug out of your system to show results if this were the case. It might be. I'm not a dr so I have no clue. It's definitely worth talking with your dr about.
I hope you get to feeling better. Keep us posted!

I couldn't find anything in my immediately available sources that relate to the throat problems you've each described. I think sometimes people may describe things differently (tummy ache for impending woopy poops). Changes in sex drive, constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, dry mouth, exaggerated feelings of depression or elation, headache, high blood pressure, hives, impotence, inability to fall or stay asleep, increased heart rate, overstimulation, restlessness, stomach or intestinal problems, throbbing heartbeat, tremors, unpleasant taste can possibly describe:
hardening of the arteries, symptoms of heart or blood vessel disease, an overactive thyroid gland, the eye condition known as glaucoma, or high blood pressure. Also avoid this drug if you are agitated, have ever abused drugs, or have taken an MAO inhibitor, including antidepressant drugs recently.
Ya'll get checked out and stop it altogether if your doctor suggests it.
Did you feel any relief at 1/2 the dose? Could you manage that way?

I don't know much, but I found this for allergic reactions. which this may very well be, you never know. I'm glad you stopped and went to the dr.
"If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop taking phentermine and seek emergency medical attention:
• an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives);
• an irregular heartbeat or very high blood pressure (severe headache, blurred vision); or
• hallucinations, abnormal behavior, or confusion.

Hi again; I think the 'throat swelling' related to a severe allergic reaction would have inicated 'ambulance needed.' It's hard to imagine breathing if your throat swells because of a severe allergy. It will not lessen with 1/2 a pill.
Based only on my experience and what my doctors have told me, many patients have to be intubated after an anaphylactic reaction. Even (epi-shot) Epiphenephrine and Diphenhydramine shots afford you only about 3 extra minutes to allow the paramedics to get there. I think if you have ever had an allergic reaction, there would be no question in your mind. JMHO
I have had several. In some instances, I was unable to breathe. Severe itching, bad burning of all the epidermal tissue and a peeling off later, as if a bad sunburn, seizures, unrelenting vomiting, burning of tissues touched by the allergen...all these can happen and have happened to me, but they won't require answers...just HELP! HELP!
A reaction that is allergic is a 'HELLO' to get help--FAST!

Thanks for the replies. My thyroid tests came back normal. yes, I did tell my Dr that I was taking phentermine, but they mentioned nothing about it. I was told that I had some drainage (but, while on the phen, I had no signs or symptoms of any sinus/drainage issues), which showed up immediately after I stopped the phen. I haven't taken it in three days, but i'm also taking an antibiotic. I do feel better, but I have a full fledged sinus infection... I know that wasn't a severe allergic reaction and I did fine w/ taking a half a pill. So, once I get better, I'll start back taking the half a pill and see how I do. I still have the sore throat and feeling of fullness in my throat, but I also fell much better than I did earlier this week. So, Idk what exactly it is, but I guess it's a good thing that I've been able to have some relief.

How long have you been taking phentermine? I did the research too and was doing an awful lot of panicking myself when I saw some the "scary" possibilities... Let me know what the ENT says...I hope all is well....I'm also going to return to the Dr. if this doesn't go away completely.
