Why am I getting pimples?

Hello all,

Back when I was a teenage, I used to have moderate acne. Then when I turned 19, it stopped and from then on (6 years later) I only get the occasional pimple, nothing too bad.

I started taking my Phentermine 37.5 mg tablet and my face is starting to break out, although mildly. In the past week, I've noticed about 8 pimples all around my face, and that amount is usually my quota for 3 months, not 1 week. Nothing has changed about my diet or face products either.

I've heard that women break out when they take this, but I'm a guy, I didn't know it could happen to me too.

Is this a temporary side effect of the pill? I'd rather take half a pill if it isn't. Any other guys experience this? Any other way around it? Taking a whole tablet really works to curb my appetite and I don't know if 1/2 tab will work as well.

Skin problems are a side effect. It is a type of amphetemine. Look at meth users skin. It's awful! They abuse the drug, so Phen users skin won't necessarily get that bad. While taking this drug if you have past experience with skin problems, even during puberty, it is likely the acne will return. Usually it will subside once the effects of the pill are out of your system, but for some it may continue. I experience extremely oily face and acne all over my body while on this medication. it does subside to a degree when I stop taking it. i think the longer I am off it the better my skin will become. I say the benefits of taking it far outweigh the negatives.

I never even had a pimple until I was 26 and tried a birth control pill...one month only..I put on so much weight and my face broke out...it was definitely hormonal!

Once I tried DHEA in a vitamin additive and broke out, too. I had a notably oilier(<---that's one of those funny looking words!)face. Might be a good anti-aging product for me now.

Several of us can trace breakouts to medicines we've taken, so you make a good point.

Most deffinitely a side effect of this medication. I've read it from several ppl. I don't think you can do anything and it want stop until your off the medicine.

I heard acne was a side effect from some people but I dont think it says in the information you get with your prescription
