Hi, back years and eons ago when I did WW, they said you can use cans (like soup or veggies) and those are about one pound. Just don't drop them on your little toes! Also, just standing on one foot and trying to balance (for some) helps to tone muscles you don't normally work on too much. If you buy a band (really cheap at Walmart) you can use your own body as the weight and help tone that way too. They come in three versions so that you can start with one and then build up to the others as needed. I've never done the bands, but my daughter did.
You do not have to exercise or do weights. If you do not then if you were really overweight and your skin stretched, it will just "hang" there and be flabby. If you lose and exercise and do weights, it will help your skin to firm up slowly. DRINK WATER though. You need lots of water when you exercise.
Don't know the answer to how much more you burn in calories.
You can actually seem to slow your weight loss down by gaining muscle and losing fat because muscles weigh more than fat does. But on the other side, it takes more calories for your muscles to keep going....so you burn more calories every day with muscle too, plus you just look better in the long run.
