Hi all. I have had a bad experience with weight loss meds. Back when Herbal Life was the big weight loss fad. I tried it. It contained Ephedra, and I started having severe Panic Attacks. It took me a couple years of Celexa and Xanax to return to normal. I still do not drink or eat caffeine. Phentermine sounds very promising, but I don't want to try anything that will bring back the panic attacks. I am contemplating whether or not to talk to the doctor about it. I don't want to rule it out if it will be safe for me. Any thoughts?

Hi becky!! Welcome to the forum!!

You have a very good question here, and hopefully I will be able to help. Phentermine is somewhat like an amphetamine...not exactly, but it does give some of the typical side effects of an amphetamine, but not everyone. Basically while on phen, you may experience dry mouth, slight jittery feeling, decreased appetite, increased energy just to name a few. The jittery feeling is similar to having caffeine. There are lower mg dosages of phen, like 15 mg, that might be enough to help without being too much.

If caffeine affects you, this may not be the right choice for you. If you have been under a drs care for your panice attacks, I would not be afraid to bring the subject up with your dr....they will know enough of your background to determine whether it might work. There are also a few other options like Meridia, Tenuate, Bontril, and Alli that might be safer for you. There is also the Phentramine-D that is sold on this website that has been very helpful to some, and I don't believe has the same side effects as the prescription Phen.

Phen is a wonderful tool, but sadly, not everyone can take it. Dr supervision is a must....hence the new laws that prevent it from being sold over the internet and only with written prescriptions from your dr. And even some who take it don't experience success all the time.

I hope this helps answer your question. Please let us know what you decide! Weight loss is a long and bumpy journey, and we are all in it together here!! You are always welcome to join us!!

Have a great day!

punky, it is kind of hit and miss, I'm afraid. There are several people who have really good luck with products like the phentramin-d, but then there are folks like me who do not....there is no real way to know for sure.

I know that you commented that phentermine got very expensive, but in my experience, it is actually about the same price for 42 days of phen as a 30 day supply of phen-d when you add in shipping and all that. Phentermine I have to go to the dr so there is the cost of the dr appointment, which I pay $45.00 I think, then the cost of the prescription, which averages out to about $1.00 per pill so a 42 day supply of phen would be about $87.00 complete, and with excellant results. The phen-d is about that much once you consider the shipping costs and there is no guarantee that it will work for you. I would think about checking into prices for getting the phen, if I were you, especially if you have used it before with good results.

Punky, another idea may be to talk to a physical trainer through your local gym, and privately ask him/her what they recommend.

Becky, look at some of the stickies at the tops of each thread. There are supplements that you can try, too: www.phenforum.com/forum
