I just wanted to welcome you here! I copied and deleted portions from SkinnyOnDiets.com:(much better to read it there!)
Review SummaryScheduling doctors’ appointments can take time and cost hundreds of dollars. Meridia is designed to be used under a doctor’s supervision. This formula is one that is readily recommended for weight loss. We appreciate prescription based options such as Meridia. But, the product is costly and does have a few side effects.

Ingredients At A Glance* Meridia – is a brand name for a common diet pill manufactured by Knoll Pharmaceutical Company. Generically it is known as Sibutramine. Chemically, (sibutramide hydrochloride monohydrate) is a stimulant similar to an amphetamine. Be advised, Sibutramine is also classified as a controlled substance. This drug is related to phentermine (one of the drugs in the Fen-Phen combination). It is still available by itself, though it is typically only prescribed for people who are at medical risk because of their weight, not for cosmetic purposes. Side effects include: increased appetite, nausea, constipation, dizziness, drowsiness, menstrual cramps/pain and rare thoughts of suicide. You can become physically and psychologically dependent on this medication. It is advised to talk to your doctor if any of these very serious side effects occurs and before stopping this medication.

* Meridia products do not contain Hoodia.(sp)

Positives• Dieters report weight loss
• Is Prescription based

Negatives• Product is expensive
• May have side effects for some users
• No trial sample

Final ThoughtsThe product Meridia, at best, seems to lead buyers to believe that it will work without a lifestyle change. Be advised, this particular product seems to be designed to be used in combination with diet and exercise and under a doctor’s supervision. We have seen many online sites try to sell pharmaceuticals. Companies more and more it seems, believe that by simply suggesting that you follow their “procedure” that they can sell a product online. The way these sites go about business is often to recommend, that customers not take the new drug before they have a complete physical. After this, the site then often asks the customer to waive the requirement for a physical and then to agree to have a physical before taking the drug, they purchased online. Sound confusing and a bit confusing, we think so too.

The drug retails for over $200.00 for 90 capsules making it one of the most expensive on the market.

Has anyone else had this problem with it?

Yes, I have taken phentermine in the past, legally obtained from a doctor. It helped me lose weight after my last baby was born, and kept the weight down to 135-140 lbs. I felt good, looked great, and was active and healthy.

Then I moved to another part of the country where we have very few medical clinics, my new doctor who was obese herself, wouldn't prescribe it even though my weight was creeping back up and affecting my health. By time I reached 245 I was desperate, ordered Phentermine online, and it worked, lost over 50 lbs and was still losing. Then I couldn't buy it anymore, and decided to try phentramin instead.

Now my weight is back up, I weighed 208 two weeks ago, and 210 when I went to the doctor a few days ago. Taking phentramin has not curbed my appetite, I always feel hungry, and find myself fighting the urge to stuff my face all day. I drink a lot of water, coffee, whatever I can to stop wanting to eat. Phentramin simply doesn't work for me.

MissM and Jade, I am so sorry you haven't had a good experience with Phentramin. It can be so infuriating to spend your hopes and your wallet on something that doesn't help you with your appetite control, yet each of you is still watching your intake, which is commendable!

If you have kids, you'll understand this: it is a bit like getting one antibiotic after another for an infection, just to waste hundreds finding what works...

Has either of you tried drinking green tea? How about Hoodia? 5-HTP?

Susan, I'm sure you've got several posts about green tea but what is your take on it? I've started drinking a cup a day - just for the heck of it - but would like to know more. I know it can't hurt trying.
