So... hmmm I'm supposed to start a journal. Hmmmmm okay, well I guess that makes sense. So, here's my story:

I recently turned 40 years old, only to be hit with the less-than-thrilling news that I have likely entered premature menopause - this after being misdiagnosed with something else last year. Still waiting for official blood work on that one. Anyway, I saw the Endo yesterday for that and we talked about my weight and the struggles I've had. The hormonal situation combined with my family history of Type 2 Diabetes (yay me) puts me at a very high risk for developing it. Now my blood sugar is perfect now but having the extra weight on me, and having no luck getting it off despite the fact that I work out in the neighborhood or 6 to 7 hours a week, we decided that I would benefit from taking Phen, which is precisely what I started doing this morning. Right now I feel fine, slightly racy but not too terribly bad. I ate breakfast (small oatmeal and a piece of sausage) and lunch (some spinach pie and a little bit of chicken salad) and I'm following all advice on drinking water - I'm at the half gallon mark for the day so far.

So here are my starting stats: 5'6", 246.9 lbs I suspect the height won't change lol. My first goal is 8 lbs by St Patrick's Day, and I've joined that challenge to make sure I do it. My mini-goal is 197 lbs. Ultimately I'd like to get down to 160.

Wish me luck and send encouragement - I'll post an update on how I'm feeling tomorrow or Thursday. Ellen

Looks like we are starting this journey together! I just know things will work out great for us! I know sometimes I need to hear a positive thing or two to help keep me going, and if you are the same way, not to worry...I'm your girl! Good Luck!

Thanks for the support - I definitely appreciate it. So I'm posting again on the same day... this could become obsessive if I'm not careful. Eeek!

Anyway, so I decided to put on my heartrate monitor that I normally wear at the gym when I got home tonight... it's definitely up. My resting heartrate is normally pretty low on this thing, like 72ish and it's basically 84 now. But just sitting here typing I've burned up 24 calories so what-eva.

I am unhappy right now because I'm hungry, not starving but definitely not full. I ate fine today - except for dinner which wasn't great... pizza courtesy of the chiropractor (seminar night ho hum). I had the equivalent, maybe of 1 slice... they cut it in little squares here so it's hard to tell. Anyway, I think that's why I'm hungry.

Proud moments of the day: I consumed 1 gallon of water plus some other glasses (like sparkling water at lunch and some herbal tea). And I ate well at the other meals and made a pact to eat well with a friend at work. So that was good too. Yay me. Thanks for the support. Ellen

Ellen-It's still your first day, so that's not so bad...you did good the rest of the day. The biggest point of the phentermine, atleast that I have heard anyway, is basically to teach you how to eat and change your habits. So atleast you are learning from day one Way to go for the rest of the day!! And that water...well done...I normally HATE water...but since starting these pills I can't get enough of the stuff...my bladder has never been fuller. LOL Anyway, WTG for day one keep us informed whenever you can. As for getting addicted to this site...yeah i can see that...this is my third time here today HAHA...i love people though and I am certainly a talker/typer...so I just hope people don't get tired of me!

Call me Sleepless in Chicago, but surprisingly I dont mind. (I'm sure that's the drugs talking!) I was tired last night and I kept my word by going to bed before 11. Watched a little TV, turned over, and went to sleep. It was a very light sleep, and I woke up about 1:30 in the morning. Then I dozed again for a little bit, ultimately getting up around 3:30 (after a mini-nightmare about work) and watched some episodes of Boston Legal that I had on Tivo. Went back to bed around 5:15, decided it was useless by 5:45, jumped into the shower, got ready (record time... I'm definitely speedier on Phen) and came to work. Now I'm catching up on email and some personal business before I really dig in for the day. But it's kinda crazy for me - I'm totally not a morning person but right now I feel GREAT. As for the insomnia, it's not shocking. Hell, I dont' even drink caffeine normally so this stuff is definitely an eye-opener for my body. I'll give it one more night to see if I can't get there naturally and if not, it's Ambien to the rescue.

I've resisted the urge to weigh myself this morning. It's a powerful urge. That's precisely why I'm resisting - see previous messages about recovering from bullimia.

Thanks for the support Amanda. I appreciate it!

I can SOOO understand about the not sleeping! I think I got a total of 6 hours my first two nights with this stuff! Then last night, well I was OUT, and did NOT want to get up this morning. I did though, with a lot of grumbling. lol I have turned into a morning person too, and I don't think I care much for it HEHE. Lot's of luck today...have a great one!

Hi everyone.

Today went well, despite the psychotic lack of sleep last night. I have a feeling tonight isn't going to be much better. Just definitely not feeling anything but pretty darn zippy for 8:23 at night after working 12 hours and then working out for an hour. Yeah, normally that'd wipe me out for a good long time.

That said, I got a TON of work done today. I seriously think something is wrong with my thyroid now because I felt better today with the zip in my step than I have in ages. I'm honestly expecting that to come back as something going on there. We'll find out in a few days I suppose.

So I think I did really well today. Eggs and a piece of sausage for breakfast, a BLT wrap for lunch, a salad as a snack (bought it for lunch too - never got to it), a fruit smoothie with banana and blueberry and whey protein, and now I'm having some microwave popcorn. I also drank all my water - a full gallon - and took my vitamins, my Omega 3-6-9, and my calcium supplement. Oh and I worked out for an hour - burned about 650 calories. I switched it up with 3 different machines - an Arc Trainer, an Ellyptical, and a Cross Trainer. They are all versions on a theme - low impact is my friend!

I hope I lose weight. I don't think I have yet or anything but it's only been 2 days. I'm having jealous fits over all of you who post like 5 lbs gone in the first week. I would be stunned if that were me - but I really hope it is!

Anyway, thanks for reading, and thanks for your encouragement. E
