They say you need at least 1,200 calories. No less! Period!
But I agree with you. I have a very hard time getting in those 1,200 calories while taking Phen. So when I notice that I'm not going to make it(not that I've been very good this week)... say it's after lunch and I know what I'm having for dinner. Plug it in and I'm not quite there... I'll fill in with some yogurt or another apple, banana, etc.
