Yes, that's basically what I do too...just try to watch calorie intake. Sometimes it gets kinda frustrating & annoying to have to think about how many calories you are consuming, especially when out somewhere!!! We go out a lot, so it is hard to keep up with sometimes. So, when we are out, I concentrate more on PORTIONS! Portion control really is the key to weight loss anyway! I do NOT deprive myself of ANYTHING!!! This is just a wide open door for failure if you deprive yourself!!! NOT worth it in my book! If I want something, no matter WHAT it is, I EAT it!!! Just a smmaaaaall portion of it though! Gotta keep an eye on those portions!!! 
I also track my calorie intake & activities on Fitday.com. This is a GREAT sight, & has helped me out tremendously!!!
