Miss G and Miss Sheila, CLA is a supplement that is suppose to help with body composition. Here's a good site that explains the theory:

Tonalin CLA

I'm not sure how much of a benefit it really is as it's difficult to gage how much toning and fat loss is brought on by the CLA vs. the workouts. But I figure it can't hurt...

Hi! Wow, I might hafta take my hubby to that mustang thingy at South of the Border! Is that the wknd of the 12th? He'd love it.

FYI, if ya'll have a Vitamin Shoppe nearby you can find CLA there. It stand for Conjugated Linoleic Acid and is derived from safflower oil. It helps your body in fat reduction and muscle retention. Basically, it breaks down stored body fat, and is most effective at 1500 mg a day and no more so with a higher dose. There is a great brand that is much purer -it is Solgar (amber bottle yellow label) and much cheaper. True story:

I managed the Vitamin Shoppe at one time, and a woman came in- a busy overweight career woman. I had her buy CLA (above brand) with an $8 jug of lecithin granules. Lecithin is a fat emulsifying soy based b vitamin that is helpful for brain function but esp. for moving broken down fat thru arteries. (Good for hgh cholesterol.) So go with me::: CLA breaks it down, lecithin moves it out.

She lost 40 lbs without even trying. She came back in thru the next year, completely changed into a gym rat. Who knows, her body chemistry may have been ripe for this fix, but the science behind it made sense to me. I passed along the info the company and people began selling the combo.

Under $20, go online.

Also, I took CLA for about 90 days and lost inches in my feet! Also in my tummy, big time. Be consistent with it.

Andrea

No kidding! We were all surprised too! But she was living proof. She took the CLA as prescribed and the lecithin double.
Another helpful tid bit-I am sure ya'l know how involved the major organs are in weight loss. Like the liver--main functions 1) to filter out toxins 2) to metabolize fats. Fatty liver syndrome is pretty common--it can happen when the liver gets burdened with drugs/pregnancy/high fat diets/high protein diet etc. So then the liver gets sluggish and can not filter as efficiently. Similarly, the colon can often hold pounds of "stuff" against the walls and in the crevices, preventing nutrients from being absorbed, causing the body to feel hungry all the time. Then the body begins to recirculate garbage. So body cleanses (colon then other major organs) can be very conducive and beneficial to weight loss.
Another true story: I did a liver cleanse last year. Lime juice, epsom salts and water (look up Basic liver cleanse.)

Queasy tummies ignore the next line:

The next time I went number two, there was no number two. Instead there were clumps of yellow fat balls. Hundreds of them. Looked like chicken fat, and when I poked at it (yes, I did, wouldn't you??) it squashed like fat.

So there is your lesson for the day! LOL
